Gotcha... I knew there was something there I was probably missing. :D

yeh me and my friends get ideas like that with a 24 pack of beer. the last one was to push back the firewall in my explorer like 12" and drop a ford racing 514 block in it. we sobered up and realized we were retarded.

but your idea actually sounds like itl work
good luck

What next? any suggestions?

So you are telling me that you have a Flowmaster installed, dumped right there, and chrome tips hanging under your bumper?

yes. it dumps right on of the flowmaster. the tips were connected at one point but i chopped the pipe becuase it sounds much better this way. i didnt loose very much backpressure at all either.

Well Ryan, my explorer replaced the parking spot at my father in laws house where we pickedup the f250. About 1 and half hours south of there the flex plate decided to go. We all though it was the starter, but upon removing that we found that the noise was actually the teeth of the flexplate hitting the starter. It has like three or four huge cracks in it and is warped to the point where the starter hits the back of it instead of engaging the teeth. I knew there was a reason I bought that other engine and trans!!!!!!!!!!

Diff, that doesnt sound good. are you going to be able to make truckhaven??

Well, I still don't have internet at home (damn @home), so pics will have to wait, since the computer at work is a pos. This weekend I removed the cab. Then I cleaned and painted the frame. Next, I'm swapping the tranny for a rebuilt, and replacing the clutch while I'm in there.

No, I am in monterey now at my parents house. I was going to try and make it by replacing what I thought the problem was, the starter, and then drive straight through and be there by saturday afternoon. After removing the starter though, I saw the real problem in the felxplate. There was no way. Packed up the VW and went to Monterey instead.

Well, I'll head down this saturday to help you fix the broken x. i figure i owe you since you towed my x down a mountain!
I'm having a kegger at my place sat. night, so i've got to be home in time for that. who's coming?

Scratch the X, I'm coming to the party!!!!!!!!! I ordered parts and they won't be here for 2 weeks so we'll fix it later. I am going to head to Battle Ground, WA Saturday and pick up that other engine and tranny and then be their later for the party and work on your truck Sunday.

Quick update. The party was fun. We finished the keg, and a big ass bottle of Jose. We woke up sunday, kept on drinking, and pulled the tranny and tcase.
My next step is to roll the X in and start dismantling.
Sorry, still no pics. I took a bunch, but I wasnt able to get them off the camera before it went on a 3week road trip with my folks.

Hey, Kevin's the perfect guy to help you!(I live too far away!) :D

So where are the photo of project EX-250??

Somewhere around L.A. right about now. Thats where the digicamera is at the moment. I should have the camera back in my hands by the end of the week. And now that the internet is working somwhat, i'll get the pics up.
I got the x in last night and starting tearing at her. The center console pissed me off. I think i broke it :( Gonna have to find some place new for my .45 now. I think the tcase shifter will come up through the floor right about there anyways.

I can bring my camera next Sunday so we can get some pics. Have you figured out or even thought about the clutch or dash cluster yet?

Hey Ryan, I've got a tan center console if you're interested.

Also, what did you think about the name Project EX-250?? Or should it be FX-250??

Kevin, I will have the camera back friday or sat. I do need somewhere to post them though. My geocities site gets shut down when I have to much traffic.
As for the clutch, I'm going to use a hydrolic clutch system for an explorer and modify it to work on the np435. I wont know about the dash for a while. It all depends on the gauges resistance readings compared to the sensors. A minor detail as far as I'm concerned.
Rick, thanks, but I epoxed the console. I took some rough measurments, and the tcase shifter will come up through the front of the center consoul. So, I'll just have to cut and modify it to work with a bent shifter. I need those cupholders....gotta put my beer somewhere.

The x is in the shop. She's a few pounds lighter, missing her hood, fenders, grill/lights, and bumper/winch. I began disconnecting wire harnesses, getting ready to pull the body. This coming weekend I install the new np435, flywheel and clutch. Then I cut the frame and shorten her. Im also going to start fabbing the new body mounts. I can't imagine how much time thats going to take me. I'll be sure to keep all my measurments, incase someone else wants to take on this project.

BTW Kevin, I left the middle seats in. That way we have a place to sit and drink a beer when we get tired.
As for the name...I like EX-250. My pet name however has been hybrid theory. I really like the album.

Ok, gonna start measuring for the big frame cut. But....
I had a crazy idea, let me know what you all think. What if I didnt shorten the frame? What if I made a bed/platform of somekind of the overhang on the rear, behind the rear hatch? My departure angle would be the same as an f250, but my wheelbase would also be the same...some 18-20 inches more than the 4 door explorer. Just a thought I'm throwing around...one of many.
I'll have pics up this weekend.

That idea as I'm sure you know is good and bad. Good for utility bad for a lot of trails.

Remember those trees at Walker Valley that I rubbed on and that the B II's zipped through? You would probably rip them out and leave logs on the trail! :D

Nothing a couple of chainsaws mounted to the front fenders couldn't handle.
I'm going to shorten the frame. the wheelbase is too much. so...how much?
after measuring the explorer hub to hub, i found it at 113 inches. i need to cut the f250 frame 21 inches to be equal. do i want the front axle forward an inch or so? hmmm. kinda questions i need to answer on the spot.
