97 Explorer Limited SOHC
I'm looking to install the EDDIE BAUER fender flares and running boards on my 97 Limited SOHC. With this appearance mod, i think the rear wheels will be looking odd, and too far inwards. So I was thinking spacers...

I carry weight in the car all the time. I am replacing my endlinks and rear swaybar very soon (with EE bar). From that point I may even add a helper leaf.

My Questions:

Is this possible? How? Easy?
Do I actually need to replace the running boards?
How many actual pieces are there to this complete EB trim kit?
Will my Limited side door moulding need to be removed?

RE Spacers >

What is/should be the maximum spacer I can go with for the rear?
Is there any other (safer) way to push out the rear wheels or hubs to achieve the same effect as a spacer?

Any and as much help as possible is appreciated!

Here's what my running boards and door trim look like for reference:

Thought i uploaded different views of pass side, guess not. If needed i will, just say the word.

Edit...... and the tires/rims are different sizes (previous owner) back are stock 16's and fronts are 31x10.5x15

Front driveshaft is removed for those that will say "that will mess truck up w/different size tires on 4wd", plus its my beater, so not too worried, looking for 4 31x10.5's right now tho

Thanks for the pics!

Can you take a pic of the rear flare including the area in front of the rear bumper?

It looks like i'd keep my front bumper as is. Then i'd need the flares and running boards...

I could have sworn that I saw an EB with a flare Kit that matched right up to the front and rear little triangular area of my LTD running boards. >>> Perhaps newer than 97???

So that was a 97 EB... Can some post up some pics (or email them to me) of other years flares and running boards?

Would still like some info about spacers too. I'm absolutely green, so any info is helpful.

Yes you can keep ur bumpers. Just need the flares and running boards. And my Eddie is a 98. My 97 is just a xlt.

Here is some more pics, need anymore just say the word I know the lighting wasn't too good in the garage when I took these this morning.

Great this is what I was looking to see... the small 8-10" behind the rear flare looks to be connected to the flare.

ok, so I'll know all the pieces i will need to hunt down...

Rear flare
Rear door piece
Rear running board
Black step piece (maybe the same as mine???)
Front running board
Front flare

Can anyone tell me if the supports are different?

It looks as though 2" spacers would do the trick. Are spacers safe???

Yes the piece on the rear flare is connected.

Not 100% on the supports, when I go out to the garage I will check and post up. But I'm almost positive the supports are the same.

No experience w/spacers, the one thing I do know is be careful w/how far you go out and make sure you pay for a quality part.

Forgot to mention before, you will need to drill holes for the "clips" on the flares to hold them tight to the body/doors.

If I was you, honestly, depending on how nice your X is paint wise I would just leave it unless you are set on having flares. I know if I had that sexy pearl ivory paint that was still in good condition I would not install the flares. That's just me tho.

Nice rims by the way.
