It is with much sadness that I have to announce.........I am leaving the brotherhood!
I have decided I am afraid that I have to let my girl go, the 98 xlt known as BIGHVM. I live in Richmond, surrey and am going to be hit with the upto £400 a year charge to park outside my own house just for having a massive 4 litre!
It is the last straw, combined with the ever increasing insurance and tax and petrol costs, I have decided to change to a Hyndai 2 litre turbo diesal Santa fe 54 reg.

This has not been an easy thing to do as I have loved my time with my Explorer, it only as for some time now the wife has been unable to work due to back issue and I have had to re jig the finances and the Explorer fine untill the Bloody council in Richmond decided on the robbery charge! I KNOW THIS IS THE AIM THEY HOPED TO ACHIEVE AND FEEL THAT IT IS NOTHING MORE THAN A STEALTH TAX, UNFORTUNATELY ONE THAT WOULD HAVE SENT ME OVER THE FINANCIAL EDGE IN THE FUTURE.
So to all I have met here and to all who read this, here is my new mobile number =07894390125. I will be coming back here from time to time and making sure you are all still behaving, so be good, love your ex and drive safe guys and gals!

Thanks for the advise and help you have given me over the years!

I'm sorry to hear that :( What your town has done is nothing short of criminal:fire:

Good luck with your new vehicle and you're more than welcome to stick around.

I wonder how long it will take before we have that here in the states?
Enjoy your new Santa fe.

Hey M8 that sucks. Stick around x or not your a great guy. I'm fed up with the 4x4 bashers, what about all the other cars that do very little mpg. Like big mercedes and BMWs not to mention Rolls Royces (3mph cough). Stuf them all I say and I would just park it anyway and let them take me to court. What about my human rights. All the best with your new purchase.

The result at this moment is that locally, ie for around a 20 mile distance, my car px was worth only £1500! I had to phone around and chopped it in for £3500 in a Hyundai main dealer in Harlow, Essex. I think thats a reasonable deal considering everything, I have seen them same age marked up for 4K but have no chance of geting that at all near me and could not be bothered to fight to sell her.

Once again I am sad to see her go, and hope that all the council people involved in this scam have the fleas from 1 million camels infest there underpants and develop as a result of the bites, severe knob rot and swollen glands that ooze nasty offensive smelly and sticky goo that no antibiotic can cure!

That would be a fine thing!

I live in London too and I wonder when this will become london wide. Its a sad time when the council impose stupid parking laws on the hardworking, tax paying individual. The local councils and the government are imposing stricter regimes on us all. Are we entering into a sublime communist regime ?

really sad to hear this :(

Never even got to meet with our X's :(

I'd be more impressed if they cracked down on all the foreign national vehicles over here with no tax/mot etc. We're surrounded by vehicles carying "PL" or "LT" plates that have been here over a year - or more - not paying tax and - as far as I can tell - not being tested to ensure roadworthiness!!

Well...I saw a news story a few years ago where a community outlawed parking a truck in your driveway overnight.

One guy had a $30,000+ decked out dually truck and couldn't park it in his own driveway, whereas his next door neighbor had a rusted out beat up (dented) piece of junk car and that was fine. They showed both on the news clip sitting around 20 feet apart. A lot of the people were fighting it at the time, but I never heard the outcome.

Where my brother lives, he can't park in the grass in his own yard. He can't have a gravel driveway. Those laws are city wide and they are making more laws as time goes on.

Where I live, I can get fined for not mowing my grass as often as they think I should. I can't have a non-licensed vehicle in my yard. Actually, those are the only two I have run into so far.

Sorry to hear you're having to give up your Explorer.
Just waiting to see what they hit us with in the budget next year (glad my tax runs out in Feb!). I think that luckily most of us have pre-March 01 cars so we 'only' have to pay the same as someone with a 1.6 but I'm sure they'll pick up on that before too long and put in another band for 'over 2.5 litres' or something.
Its not as if they don't already get enough money out of us through petrol taxes!

Good luck with the SantaFe.

Funny how things work out... We just had a reporter from the UK join the site. He wants to hear from people who have been targetted by radicals because they own a SUV or 4x4. I think you should share your story with him. As it seems your town is the radical group...

Here's a link to his thread... http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=172139
