jsut got back from the dump, had a 1400 pound load on the trailer, not to much tongue weight. explorer was really sagging low, i expected some, but not this much. still plenty safe to drive though. my question is this. i have seen some shocks with springs, cant find the link right now but im sure you know what i mean. would it be good to just put these shock/spring combo on or would it be better to just replace the leaf springs, possibly do both ( im thinking this would be gross overkill ). right now i rarely pull much weight, but this summer i am going to get a pop up camper. so, with this being said, what is the more better suggested route to go? shocks/springs or new leafs or a combo of both?

the least expensive/easiest way to go would be to put on a set of Monroe Load Leveler shocks (w/springs). the time to replace the rear springs is when you get the "gangsta lean". the shocks w/springs will give your rear a little extra support and not ruin your ride quality.

I didn't find it gave that much lift on my sagging springs... That's why I replaced my springs, but still, good shocks none-the-less, and they will correct some rear end sag.

i put them on my 99 as well,
they didn't give any lift,, only put it back real close to stock height,,
they are not meant to give lift, but to help sagging springs,,

yeah, thats what i was talking about. a lift is always nice, but id be happy with the rear not sagging. whats a good place for leaf springs? im curious as to what it would cost to replace those as well.

$150 'ish and up (each) for new leaf springs. and a stock replacement my not help much as they're pretty soft. have you considered adjustable air shocks for the back?

i have, but im not really comfortable with putting the added weight on the shock mounts. i would rather the leafs take the weight the more i think about it. is there a good place to get leaf springs from?

77$ each, seems cheap. this is also minus new hardware, which i would replace. am i missing something? these are just oem replacements

Yeah, those are the ones you will want. You'll probably want to get new hardware too, bolts, shackles, etc. You will also need u-bolts. Those are OEM replacements, and don't worry too much about how soft the OEM ones are. You can put in an add-a-leaf and firm it up quite a bit, and get about 1_1/2 inch lift out of that, or you can put those on your sagged factory springs, and take up the sag and add small amount of lift, and they will firm up the ride considerably. If you are just worried about springs sagging again... don't. They took a decade to get to where they are at now. Besides, you can always put on the load assist shocks that we were talking about in this thread and never worry about it.

and no one has has any problems with the load adjust shocks? id be worried the top shock mount would have trouble taking the added abuse from the spring?

I've got no problems, even when I'm loaded down or towing.

Or, you can take the leaf springs off an F150. A few people have done that..
