Oooh yeah!!!!

The sway bar has just arrived and it is sweet! It has a shiny red finish and it feels SOLID. I'm off to find the poly bushings and hopefully install it today. I'll post my results asap.
:D

let us know what bushings you used...model and number..because mine should be here in a few days :)...hopefully ill get it before i go to school...

I ordered my set yesterday, front and rear. I didn't get any bushings though, we'll see how the stockers are.

Man... you guys suck. I want a sway bar.

then buy one... :) before they are all gone....

I have a 94 though. Do they make them for 94s?

YESSS!!!

The sway bar is on and what a difference it makes! I wasn't really expecting that much improvement without new shocks but with the Energy Suspension bushings this thing really improved my handling. I can definitely feel it when I turn at intersections. I used to get that top heavy lean as I made the turns but now it feels
a lot flatter. It makes the my turns a lot crisper and more precise. This thing eliminated a lot of the bobbing and swaying I used to have when rolling over bumps or ramps. I can't wait to see how it feels with Bilsteins on. This mod is definitely worth the price. Heck, I would have paid full price if I knew it was going to make this much difference.

Oh yea.... you're probably wondering about the bushings, huh? Well, they are the Energy Suspensions greasable sway bar bushings: 7/8", 22mm, part number 9.5158G. I picked them up at Austin Performance Specialty and Equipment Inc and they were $17 including TX tax. I walked in there with my bar in hand and they just measured it and handed me the bushings
that fit it. They came with the metal brackets and they have a nipple which I guess enables you to lubricate it when necessary. Let me know if you have any ?'s.

NITELIFE, glad you like it! Now that wasn't so difficult, was it? ;) hehehe! Wait until you get the Bilstein's on! You'll feel a BIG improvement at high speeds, much more stable at around 80 to 90mph.

Willie-
That's it! That's what I still need. To improve the handling on the highway. The swaybar alone isn't enough to improve it significantly. It helped reduce the sway when I change lanes but I want it minimized even more! I am definitely ordering those Saleen Bilsteins.

BTW I went to like 15 places, all around Austin, with the swaybar in my hand asking for freakin' urethane bushings. No one could help me. None of these guys carried ES bushings (some had offbrand urethane but they didn't fit) and only a few could special order. I almost gave up but I forced myself to walk into the last store at 6:55 pm and they close at 7pm. My hard work paid off I guess cause they had the bushings I needed plus a whole lot of other goodies that I want now, hehe. I will probably be getting a few calls this week from these sorry stores informing me that they have the bushings I requested. Sorry, they're too late. :D

Strange....

Willie, the back of the package for my ES bushings has a sticker that states "Not for use on 79-96 mustang", among other vehicles. Funny, didn't you mention in your previous post that you thought your bushing were meant for 79-93 stangs?

I knew it mentioned something about Mustangs but I guess it was the opposite of what I thought, (keep in mind I installed it two years ago.) :D

I ordered my rear sway bar just minutes ago! I can't wait. What's the word on the front sway bar...is it worth it or not? Saleen told me they had about 20 of these left. Thanks!

Hey guys. stop ordering sway bars... your supposed to be out finding me a cheap sway bar. Damn.

anyone know a place online that you can order those bushings from... I have tried every store i can find and I can't find them anywhere??

Bushing Part #

FYI ... the Energy Suspension web site has an index that helps you ID the ES part number. In this case, 9-5158-G means the following:

9 = Universal Application
51 = stabilizer frame bushing
58 = diameter, 7/8" or 22mm (stock on 96 = 19mm)
G = graphite-impregnated - black color only

I found the part number listed under www.suspension.com under their "universal" section. However, read the following:

"UNIVERSAL SERIES FITS MOST AMERICAN BUILT CARS(except '79 - '96 Mustangs, G.M. trucks and Ford trucks)
will fit mounting bolt spacing Min. 2 - 9/16" to Max. 3 - 5/8"(3/8" bolts). Includes metal brackets."

Now the web site shows the Explorer under their "Ford Trucks" section. Hmm ...

Nitelife, was this truly a "bolt on" install for you? Before I order everything, I'd like to make sure!

Since Nitelife's X is a 99 model, will it be much different than my 1996? I would hate to order all of this stuff and find out I've made a mistake.

Yup, this was a direct bolt-on application for me. I experienced no problems installing the ES bushings. Took me about 1 hour to install everything with the "help" of my 5 year old twins. Probably could have finished in 30 minutes without their help, hehe. The ES brackets lined up prefectly with the holes of my frame. The stock bolts were re-used. I noticed that the stock brackets and bushings were thicker than the ES stuff.
I have heard that Ford changed a few things with the swaybars since the '98 models. I am not sure if the bolt spacing for the swaybar brackets was one of those things. I have an idea.... Explorer Express sells stuff for all years of Ex's. See if they can help you verify the bolt spacing.
Feel free to ask me anything else. I'd be glad to help as much as I can.

Finally took the plunge, and called Saleen. Front and rear sway bars for my 96 Explorer are on their way. $119.09 plus shipping; a really sweet deal.

Also called www.suspension.com and ordered bushing; 45 dollars for both front and rear. I love the Internet.

okay, guys.. what about my 94!?
