I recently got 2 wide scratches on the passenger door window. Obviously it's gotta be something down in the door, what I dont know. I cant hear anything when the window goes up and down. Anybody know what to look for before I get new glass?:frustrate

What kind of scratches are you talking about? Ive heard some people that have used some fine steel wool to get the scratches out. Is the window tinted? Inside or outside scrathces.

There is 2 of them about 1/2" apart and they are each about an inch wide on the inside. They sort of look like etchings. I dunno if I can get them out with steel wool or not. I heard you can use toothpaste for that too. The kind with baking soda in it. I gotta find out what caused them in the first place or removing them or replacing the glass. I've never had the door panels off so I dunno whats in there. If they're anything like the inside of my Crown Vic doors I cant think of anything that would cause this. The window aint off track or anything it goes up and down without any trouble when I push the button. They are not tinted glass.

My only question to them is if it is NEW how is it IMPROVED   :hammer:

Thanks, I'll do that. But what in the hell caused them in the first place? I need some ideas before I go tearing into the door.

You are much closer to your truck than I am. You go look. :D

...seriously, it is much easier to take off the door panel and check it out than just try and guess from a myriad of suggestions, all of which will involve having to take the door panel off to check out anyway...

You're right I am closer, just thought somebody might have an idea on what to look for. I aint gonna do it today though, I got a house full of people for the game right now. I already had to much:chug: I'll be sure to let everybody know what I find out when I find out.

mine did it too, but my scratches are on the outside and run vertically. I can't find what caused em, and they are etched into the glass.

Thats what I got. I'm gonna take the door apart tomorrow and see what I can see. I'm a little to fugged up tonite to fool with it.:chug:

Yeah. The same thing happened to me a long time ago. I have taken my door panel off numerous times to mess with the speaker, and I've always looked, but could never find anything.

I've tried toothpaste. The scratches are waay too deep for that.

I bought one of those glass polishing kits, and it didnt work. It's a rip off...if I could do it again, I wouldn't buy it. Hell, that stuff didnt even remove the very small scratches I have in my mirror glass.

I think we are doomed to buying new glass.

Same thing happened to my mustand but it was after i was involved in a car accident where i was hit in the drivers door. After the door was fixed where the door handle is i had many fine scrathes and i realized when the bodyshop had fixed my door they didnt pull out the dent they just bondoed it and the back of the door handle was rubbing against the window. You can also check for grains of sand in the seal that rubs on the window.

I have the same thing on my driverrs side door, two lines vertically. I am going to wait till they rub through the other side before I do anything.:D

I couldnt find any reaon for it. I'm goin to the bone yard for a window. If they come back on the new one, I guess I'll just live with it.:redexp:

I noticed the scratches on mine when I first bought it. I looked down between the glass and the sheetmetal with the window half down and saw a clip like thing that was rubbing. I took it back to the dealer and within 5 min. they brought the truck back out fixed and it hasn't happened since.
If you pull the seal out and look in there you should see what is doing it.
Maybe call a dealer and ask them, they seemed to know just what to do to mine.

I have the scratches on my passenger side window also...:( I guess there's no way to remove them.

There is metal behing the rubber eding between the glass and the outer door panel. it is causing it on mine and i am sure it is on all yours also. we sort of got it to stop by shoving a screwdriver down there and trying to bend it back...the best bet is removing that black moulding and bending th epart, then reinstalling.
I have not done it to mine. If one of you do, please let me know!

I just had my door panels off today for some audio work and it's not hard to take them on and off, you just need a little patience and a panel popping tool to make it easier.

I'd say it's either a wire retainer or a wire harness, if it's not due to an accident.

I put new glass in and no new scratches. I'm baffled how they got there in the first place. But they aint coming back on the new glass.:) :) :) :)
