Haha... Alright man.

So what are his prices anyways?
I want a Performance lowgrade fuel tune, and a fuel economy low grade fuel tune?

Would he charge to send me those same tunes again with a different fuel grade?

How long does the tuner usually take to re-flash the pcm? [ I wish it was on the fly, with the vehicle running...]

It takes a couple of minutes.

SCT was set-up as a network of dealers that handle the tuning. The advantage software is what your looking for so that'll cost you. Sniper will cost you too. I personally like for someone that knows what they're doing to write my tunes.

I've seen guys use sniper to do there own tune, then post up a dyno chart with there air-to-fuel ratio. It was all over the place and that is not good.

That sniper program won't work with the programmer you just bought. The most expensive part about getting a performance tuner, is actually getting the tuner, the tunes are the cheaper part of the equation. Just wait for James to PM you back and let him take care of you, he is very customer service oriented and will make things right for you as best he can.

I know sniper stuff won't work with my SCT, it was just an example.. I had an understanding that SCT had a simple wizard like that.. Anyways.. Yea.. I'ma talk to James and see what he can do for me..

James Makes tunes for $50 each, you can get 3 for $140. Tuning is something that takes know how and experience, just pay the money and go on with it. You can order right from his website, with your job and all, it ought to be easy for you. :D

Read this carefully:

Things cost money. You get what you pay for. You have asked questions that have already been answered- read your own thread. Do your own research, there is a vast amount of information on this site and many others- search and read, its all been covered. Listen to the advice that you have been given, the people who posted in this thread know their stuff.

This is starting to look like your exhaust questions (headers), you keep asking the same thing over and over, you don't get the answers you like so you keep asking.

You're saying I don't search at all and read up on this stuff?

For some reason, I didn't see your post when you mentioned the prices.

I just like getting my facts straight, I don't want to regret doing a mod or something. Specially on something that I can't return or something that could cause damage if the specs are slightly off.

I am saying you don't search and read up. I had similar questions when I got my flasher, but I got on the forum at SCT flash, searched and read, got my answers.

If you want to get it right, go to www.hensonperformance.com order however many tunes you want, put what mods you have and what octane fuels you want to use. James will email the tunes shortly. There isn't anything to get straight, James is a professional who knows his stuff, trust him.

I know, I got my CAI/Catback from him, he helped me out with every question I had. Good guy.

Alright, so.. now it's down to what type of tunes I want.. I can have a max of 3 on this thing, plus my stock.

Not having much luck finding the difference in performance tunes with low grade vs premium. [Actual numbers]

Here's what I'm thinking..
Fuel Econ Low
Performance Low
Performance Premium [Maybe]

or

Performance Premium
Fuel Econ low

hm.. I don't know.. I'm still looking through threads trying to find out how fuel grades effect both performance and mileage.

I figure if I'm going to start tuning for performance, I'm should sacrifice the money to go for Premium. [Now that I have a job, it'll be easier. =) ]

I'm still thinking this out.

Thanks for the help though, I do try searching. I use 3 different sites when I'm researching things..
ExplorerForum
RangerForum
RangerPowerSports
I'm a member on all three.. sometimes I just gotta ask though. I'll get answers close to what I'm looking for.. but a lot of the time there's something different about their setup that makes it uncomparable to mine they forget to mention until later on. Blah.. Still learning all this truck stuff..

Expect little to no gains with anything but premium fuel- that's where the power/economy is. I got two tunes a 93 street and a 93 towing. Premium fuel costs .20 more a gallon than regular, maybe .24. So .20 x 16 gallons (my average fill up) = $3.20 more per fill up. If you got 1 MPG more per gallon on premium, its worth the expense.

Someone just told my the gain was minimal, maybe 5hp..

Hm.. I do agree one MPG would be a nice increase..
For the most part, I have a lead foot.. but I think the fuel econ tune would be excellent for road trips..... up until I find someone in the middle of the trip that wants to race.. lol..
Hm, Premium fuel burns cleaner also from what I've read & been told... I don't think it would hurt anything but my wallet a little bit.

I'm going to ask James what type of tunes there are, I've seen people mention Torque tunes from time to time.

As far as I know, there's:
Fuel Economy
Performance [Whatever grade fuel]
& Torque [Whatever grade fuel]

Hm.. I wonder if I should actually use mid grade..
I'm wondering which difference is biggest?
Low vs Midgrade
Midgrade vs Premium?
There's so many debates online that don't really give a definite answer, but I guess it's understandable with how things are nowadays.
I'm for the most part looking at performance gains/losses.
I should probably narrow it down to either midgrade or premium and forget low.

SCT does not have any kind of wizard for the Advantage tuning software. Real custom tuning requires much more than answering questions in drop down menu's. I see allot of people saying they want to be able to adjust their tunes but when it comes down to it they never end up doing it. Do not worry about what kind of adjustment you want to play with. Having full tuning access at your level of understanding would be dangerous for your vehicle. The end user adjustable settings on the Xcal will allow you enough minor items to play with but not enough to get you in trouble.

Go to www.sctflash.com/forum/ if you want more information on what I just mentioned. There is a world of knowledge out there for you. All you have to do is hit the search button.

I can't sign up, it says the Administrator has banned my email address.. wtf

One more item.

I believe you are nuking the hell out of this. You have very minor bolt on mods. You are not running forced induction or a friggin stroker motor so there is no need to overthink this stuff like you are doing. Your tune, and the options for it will be relatively simple so don't make this into rocket science. Be patient, stop asking 5,000,000 questions that you have already asked and had answered, calm down and let James take care of you. If you have any additional questions and do not want to wait until James can get back to you then go to the SCT website and look the information you want up in there.

There are allot of people that are willing to help you out here but you got to do some of your own leg work too.

At this point, I'm waiting on James and I'm reading up on fuel.
I've figured I'm going to get One performance tune, either premium or midgrade.. definitely not low..
and one fuel economy tune... at Least midgrade..

Hm.. I wonder if I should actually use mid grade..
I'm wondering which difference is biggest?
Low vs Midgrade
Midgrade vs Premium?

I have found after years of extensive testing ( of well over 50 tunes ) that a custom tune based on 89 octane gives me the best gas mileage ( although only slightly better than a 93 tune ).

87 Octane in both economy and performance tunes is like peeing into the wind.

From what you say about having a lead foot, you will never get any results from a gas mileage tune, sorry.

Here is some actual dyno data from some testing I did back in 2005:

Hard data is there, you just have to look for it. Good luck ....

Another thought ....

Since you appear to have an interest in tuning, maybe you should pick up a copy of SCT's book, The Basics of Tuning

heh got a lead foot huh>? Come down to KC and we can have a good o Ex. race!:D

Hell Yeah!

As for the lead foot, I wouldn't have a lead foot using the Economy tune.. that would just be pointless.

I'll look into that book.
I THINK the fuels we have here are 87, 89 and 91..
So I think I would be using Mid-Grade if I went with Aldive's info.
