....i had some free time today, some seafoam, and seafoams deep creep...i had my ranger and my 89 1 ton together, so guess what i did? i poured 1/2 a can into the rangers brake boost line and the other 1/2 into the big trucks booster line, both while running, let them sit for 5 or 10 mins, and put on the smoke show...now, my big truck don't look perty, but she is pretty new mechanically except the engine...the truck has 280,000 miles on it...the ranger is a 2.3, 154,000, and this is the first time it got seafoam...it was a standard cali vehicle...the previous owner put gas in it and had the oil changed...i just changed the original shocks off it, another story...anyway, my big truck smoked for a little bit after i restarted the truck so it would smoke out...i did the same to the ranger...started it, run it up to 2000 rpm, and let her smoke...she smoked for 25 mins as i would rev her bring her back to 2000 and rev her some more...as i heard before, cheech and chongs up in smoke, i swear...as for the difference in the truck, a ton of difference...the ranger is the only truck i've had with no passing gear...the throttle response is awesome...the best thing is when it is pulled out of gear, the idle drops down to 600-800 while i'm moving...before it would stay at 1100 until i came to a complete stop...when i come to a stop, i have to remember the engine is on...it is such a sweet idle...as for better fuel milage, i'm not sure...the only time i haven't had it floored since the seafoam, i was shifting gears...it's a must for any ranger or x...

just an update...i ran thru a 1/2 tank or so to get used to the way the engine and throttle now feel after running seafoam thru it...i just filled it up and am doing a milage check...i usually get 60 miles for the first quarter of a tank and each quarter after, all city stop and go...i just got 77 miles on the first quarter of a tank...i will post next when i refuel...btw, it's a 16 gal. tank..

ive heard of this seafoam...what does it actually do? where would i pour it into the motor? ive got a 96 4.0 v6 X

it's an engine cleaner etc...you pour it in the brakes bosster vacuum hose...the directions are on the can..you should also use the deep creep spray, by them also, on your throttle body and linkage at the same time..they are both well worth looking into and using...

much appreciated :)

ok so when i run it through the brake booster line or whatever do i need to then take it out or what im kinda confused. where does it go?

you pour it, it's a liquid, into the brake booster line while the truck is running... you then turn the engine off, wait 5 min.s while also putting your hose back on...these let's it soak onto the inerds of your engine..then you restart your truck and let her smoke out...it's better decribed i think at the start of this post...but, think of it as getting into your engine and cleaning all the tarnish off...it then let's the parts work like when they were new..

19 mpg looking good ;) keep us posted as your progress continues
~troy~

i'm hoping it stays that good for the rest of the tank...

yeah that's some great stuff i have a 91 jetta that had a faulty ring most likely due to carbon build up. i was losing compression in that cylinder so i poured some sea foam in the oil and the gas tank then ran it like that for a bit then let it sit a couple days came back and tested the compression again and i had full compression. so i changed the oil and it's ran great ever since! im always gona keep a can on hand

i've never run it thru the oil....i wonder if i shold for my big truck...it's fine but as good as seafoam works on the rest...hmm, i just might...

Hey just DO NOT pour it into the brake booster line though, it will hydrolock the motor. That's not good. This is the way I did it. I poured the Seafoam in a cup and let it take sips while allowing air to enter the booster line also. It will bog down and sound like it is going to stall, when this happens you are getting too much Seafoam in the line. Just back it off and get some air in the line. Shut the engine down for about five min. and restart and drive.

yeah run it through the oil, it'll go in and clean a lot of crap out of there.

just an update on my seafoam test for mpg...my first tank got 243 miles at 12.56 gals = 19.35 mpg mainly city with about 60 miles highway...i will very soon be getting a fuel up but we had high winds for 2 days and i just put on a catback exhaust with 2 1/2" pipe after 245 miles on this current fuel up...

yep and proceed to run all that crap through the oil pump :thumbdwn:

but i have been depating on trying this on the induction side with my rig
(33o+K on the engine)

whoops on my previous post...the catback was installed at 220 miles on current fill up...i just filled up with a week of all city driving and 2 days of high winds for 225 miles on 13.21 gals = 17.03 mpg...
hey, cheapthrillX, i would run it thru the brake boost line on yours, with that kind of milage if you have never done it, it needs it...i would love to here your comments on how your truck performs afterwards...just take the above mentioned warning on how not to hydrolock your motor....

People I'm flying in the dark here would you put this in your bottom end to clean your timing gear and tensioners ? Just curious

it's also known to cure cancer and some cases of HPV

yeah i do probably a half dozen fuel inj maint.'s a week at my shop (I'm an ASEcert. Tech for the last 10 years)

but i have never bought into the engine/oil flush cleaning items......

something about pouring something into the oil to clean up, and having everything that gets removed being run through the oil pump BEFORE the filter just seems to do the pump no favors

i'll do the top end cleaning though and report my findings, but my truck is off road only so they'll be no mileage reports lol
