I am a Newbee..Have a 1994 and 1996 Ford Ranger.Very tough trucks!Rare problems,usually easy repairs.
I think I found my answer already on this forum...a shift solenoid C (3) that controls the 3-4 shift.I will change fluid, pan gasket, filter, check solenoid for proper operation and resistance, and maybe do a band adjust while under there.
Any recommendations,(pro or con) on using Sea Foam before draining and installing new fluid?
I have heard that sea foam is basically diesel fuel from a chemist that analyzed it.

Thanks in advance for all help on this matter.

I'm not one to put additives in the transmission. I have seen a lot of folks use Seafoam in their engines, but I can't remember anyone using it in their tranny.

Thanks for your valuable time and feedback.
There is a sea foam for engines, but also one for trannies as well. They say it cleans lacquer build up off of internal parts. After a few hundred miles it is drained and then the trannie is filled with fresh fluid.
Does anyone have any personal experience with Sea Foam forTransmissions?

I have always sworn by BG products in the crankcase, tranny and most important power steering fluid.
My two Holman Moody retired mechanics swear by the stuff and turned me on to it.

Is your fluid dirty to begin with? I just replaced my 3-4 solenoid in my 93 explorer because OD stopped suddenly. It didn't fix the problem. My computer commanded a shift and the solenoid clicks when it gets 12v and ohms out 20-30 as it should. I was hoping it was clogged or something but no such luck. With a new one there's still no OD. let us know how it goes and if and how you solve your problem!
And just a heads up when i refilled my trans it took like 7-8 quarts lol. I suppose since the valve body came down it let a lot of extra fluid out or something. I made a terrible mess in my driveway it was a lot more than expected. So make sure to buy more than just the 3-4 quarts that's required for a fluid/filter change.
