Section525's new DD/Tow Rig/Super Hot Chick Magnet

This is why for how offen I tow, I bought the one-fitty. Decent mileage for a truck, and only uses regular gas;)

You just wait. 1.5 more months and gas will be more expensive than diesel again.

If you don't have them already, make sure you have them look into the TSP detailing head studs. Either the H-11 or APR branded ones.

god I hate powerstrokes
I love my 7.3L PSD!:D Well except for the PMRs:thumbdwn:

oh one other thing to point out, my '06 dropped $10K in auction transaction pricing in the past 4 months with rising fuel prices, as have the '08s from what I used to pay for them.
I know a quite a few people that aren't to happy about the current resale/trade-in values on their F250/350/Excursions.

That pretty much ruined my day yesterday so I thought I'd share that before you get talked into trading it in on a newer one with "no issues"
About the only "newer" with "no issues" would be a 2002-2003.25, but I'd rather take a 1999.5-2000 for the forged rods.

The 6.0 in our company work truck has been a real turd- CEL on all the time, been to the shop several times in the last few months one thing causes another and there is no end in sight.

I like 7.3's I'd take one any day over a 6.0

That the problem with the 6slows, most are trouble from the get go. But every now and again you get a decent one. Almost all the 6.0L guys that I know have been putting on 2003 turbos, re-programing their FICM, blocking off their EGRs and putting head studs in to fix most of the problems.

I hate to make people think I'm anti-Ford's on here, I've owned 9 F250/excursions over the past 5 years, it's just frustrating to deal with a few of the issues, towing my Explorer to Moab for 8 hours without shutting the truck off at 70 mph and getting 12 mpg is the bomb, just was better in the good ol' days that fuel was $1.75, not 4.75, and that was 4-5 years ago.

Plus the warranty luck on the 6.0s is a pain.

In my opinion, if I was to do another Ford, I would consider a new from a dealer if I could manage to get every discount possible to purchase it around $40K for a nicely trimmed out truck. With the right incentives you can get pretty close to that deal (I'm talking a lariat, 4x4, crew similar to what Section and I drive). The incentive here would be your truck would now qualify for "lemon law" as well as you get a free loaner car when your vehicle is in the shop, used trucks don't apply to these terms.

My '06 has spent enough time in the shop that I think Ford would have taken it back twice now if I were the original owner. Each time I get it back I love it, and wouldn't drive anything else if it was handed to me (my ideal dream truck would be a crew F250 psd with about $30K in suspension, wheels/tires, audio, aftermarket turbo, engine mods, etc over anything else on the road).

Plus the warranty luck on the 6.0s is a pain.

You think warranty issue is bad on a 6.0 try getting any warranty work down on the new 6.4L POS! Leaking radiators, engines making oil, engines blowing up with in the 10k miles, 9 mpg highway...

And now the EPA started cracking down on all the tuners for their DPF/Regen delete tunes.

Hmm... My 2001, 7.3 6 speed is paid off in October.

Yahoo!

Not looking to buy anything newer at this time.. too many changes, too fast.

Yep, and Ford is already planning a new 6.7L to replace the 6.4L; due out sometime around 2011.

Yeah, my truck was paid off for 2 months sitting in Tennesse waiting for me to pick it up back in '06, I'm so happy I don't owe $30K on the thing right now. I busted ass and hustled cars for a few years to eliminate car payments. It's a good feeling when somebody calls me a gas hog and I tell them the difference in their gas bill and mine is probably lower than the interest they will be paying each month for the next 5 years.

I passed on a'03 with a 7.3 for a steal about 2 years ago, I wish I would have gone that route and gotten one of the last trucks to be produced with that workhorse engine. My '01 Excurison on 37s with 4.56 gears pulled 19 mpg.

I won't touch a 6.4 or any Ford diesel for quite a while. Its is a good thing I like the truck I'm stuck with. I'm jealous of Tom's transmission though. I like that truck the first time I saw it, it just looked like a beast towing the zuk with the cabover.

Since we've got the "super duty" crew here, (Show and Section) would anybody be interested in a camper shell that would expand? I love cabovers but can't really pull one off with my lift, Froader designed this for me, I was looking into getting one produced.

this company isn't bad, but they won't hold up to Truckhaven wind

I like those, but I'm pretty happy with my Napier Truck Tent. That and I'm thinking about getting a transfer tank so I can fill up in Mexico.

EDIT: They just called. It's a bad piston. Needs a new short block. Yes!! :(
WTH seriously? A bad freaking piston -- is it cracked or something? And is this still covered by the drivetrain warranty?

A guy right down the street from me has a flip-pac. I like the concept, I just would like to keep the amount of nylon to a minimum. I think a bad day at Truckhaven would have that torn right off the roof. The good thing about the flip pac is that you seriously have about a 10 foot ceiling when you are standing in the bed of your truck.

Sorry Section, I'm getting off topic. Curious what timeframe the dealer quoted you for the repair.

It took me 2 years to find that truck.. Dealers around will not order a 6speed for the lot, you have to special order.. and I didn't want to buy new, I bought it used. I also was told the 6.0 with the 6 speeds are dogs off the line.

Bad news - when the 6 speed transmission goes in that truck, it's expensive. More than the automatics I'm told.

With the G rated 19.5' tires, it is a tow/haul beast.

Aha, it was the 19.5" wheels and the semi tires that you get about 300,000 miles on, I knew there was something other than a 6 speed that made me think that was the ultimate tow horse.

And yes Steve,
That quickup was my favorite, ugly as sin, but would hold up to the wind, That was a prototype that has not made it into production. I called them as well.

Yup!

Called the dealer after not hearing from them for a while. He said the motor is out, but they're waiting on authorization from Ford to put in a complete new motor instead of a short block. That would be nice. But I'm guessing three more weeks.

So update? Do you have the truck back from the dealer?

Wow, in three days it will have been one month. Sorry to hear about your luck. Seriously though, everyone including tow truck drivers and Ford service writers always talk about how many warranty issues they have but yet it still takes so long to get authorization for repairs.

I wonder if they speed things up for business vehicles, ambulances, etc. Think of all the service vehicles out there that are Ford Diesels.
