Here Again,
I have been busy with my Fordy for the past month diagnosing, grinding frequency noise coming from front side of my Explorer 96 XLT.
Things has been checked or changed!
1 Checked tires OK, noise still coming!!
2 Removed front wheel drive shaft & drove the truck, Noise is there!!
3 Changed Both Wheel Hub Bearings, Noise still coming!!
4 Changed Complete CV front Axel Assembly both side, Noise is still there!!!
What next?? Are we talking about Front wheel differential case bearings OR?? If so what is the easy or best fix, Showed the vehicle to the Dealer, he was suspecting CV Assemblies, Now dealer is asking for repair of differential which is

1.) CONE &ROLLER ASSY DR PININION ------85.0

If the front differential is the problem, it would probably be cheaper to replace it with a used front diff. Or you could try rebuilding it yourself - parts should be available much cheaper than the dealer prices.

Thanks for your reply, I tried to check the used parts store in town, they are asking about 400 bux, but the question is I have noise problem in my 96 model & will probably change with same 96, thinking that might have also noise or even worse like leaking problem !!
Rebuliding is good idea, at least you have confidance that you have new bearing & seals kit.
MY VIN # 1FMDU34X2TUC68992 any ideal about the parts source ? I live in Abu-Dhabi UAE, I also need to ship it here.
Thanks & regards

I put a used front diff in my truck because of a serious grinding noise. I paid $250 for a used unit that had about 50K miles on it. Came with a 90 day warranty too. I opened it up, cleaned, replaced all the seals and installed it - 10K miles ago. Runs like a champ!

I had the front diff making noise, needs bearings. What I did is just remove the whole front drive line....might be at least a temporary solution to your problem.

Write up HOW TO REBUILD & CHANGE FROND DRIVE ASSEMBLY

Well , Yeah I some how agree with you guys, changing the whole front drive assembly from used store may solve the problem for the time beaing,

I am thinking its would be great , if some one can give us "write up " HOW TO REBUILD & REPLACE FRONT DRIVE ASSEMBLY "

Cheers

Hi,
Is any one can confirm, 96XLT front differential drive assembly has to be replaced with same year & model, i.e. 96XLT from used parts store OR some later years / model can be fit which possibly has less hours on it like 99 XLT or up word ?
Please advice!!
