Can someone please tell me the exact steps needed to change the shift solenoid C (P0761 and P0153 of course) do I have to completely disassemble something or will I be able to get at the shift solenoid if I take off the pan and filter?

I am not real confident, so the more detail (and pictures) that you might be able to give, the better.

I had shift solenoid B replaced at a Ford dealer a few months ago on this truck and I can't justify spending another $400-$500 on this vehicle considering that I have 213,000 miles and isn't worth enough for me to do anything but drive it until I crash it or completely wreck the tranny.

Thanks in advance for your help and thanks to the hardcore guys that have thousands of posts over a long period of time; They are really valuable for a guy like me.

One other question

I own the Haynes and Chilton manuals for this vehicle which don't give an exploded view for the valve body and how to disassemble and reassemble it.

If anyone knows where to find a good diagram or book that shows how to do this, I would really appreciate it.

You have the 5R55E right?

If so, here is the build diary. If not, there are other build diaries that are stickies at the top of this forum.

Hope it helps, and good luck.

Actually, I Think Ihave the 4R55E (which I believe is the 4.0L verison?)

The problem is, the build diary doesn't specifically mention the solenoids in the build sequence. I really just need to figure out if I can get at the solenoids if I drop the pan or if I have to take off the seperator plates. Also, regardless of what I have to take out to get at them, I need to know what kind of gaskets, and materials I'll need to do the job right.

Obviously, this is the most adventurous I have ever been with regard to fixing something on my veicle, but I figure I have the shop space and the tools, so I ought to be able to do it if someone will just help me with the steps I need to take.

Thanks for your suggestions, I appreciate it.

You have to remove the pan and a hold down bracket is all. (plus wiring harness of course). That's all.

changed the Shift solenoid and the problem remains

I'm not sure what to do now? One weird thing happened though, When I was adding transmission fluid while the truck was running, I happened to bump my fingers on the top of the back left spark plug wire and I got a huge jolt.

I did it again on purpose just to see if it was an anomoly and it happened again. So now my question is: Could this obvious electrical malfunction be causing the other problem, and if so how do I fix it?
