There are several quality manufacturers of brake pads, I prefer using Raybestos personnally, make sure you get their lifetime warranty, they will exchange them no questions asked anytime they wear out. Several Autoparts stores carry this brand.

Midus also puts a lifetime warrenty on their pads.

I have been running Bendix premium pads and they have lasted about 28K so far and still have plenty of life. The 1995 and newer trucks have rear disk brakes. You may want to check out to make sure all your brakes are working at the corect rate. also do you tow or carry heavy loads or run big tires? Those will all wear down the pads faster.

It's also possible that either your master cylinder or the proportioner (Equalizer) valve is not functioning properly, causing the rear brakes to perform all the braking functions of the vehicle. The front brakes should do the majority of the braking and wear out the quickest.

i have stock tires and no towing... im just hard on them, i have been thinking about upgrading the rotors to the slotted style and just finding a premium pad to use but first i wanted to try to use premium pad first.
so does anyone else go through them like crazy???
Do you think upgrading the rotors would help, if so do you konw of anyone selling any kits that will upgrade the front brakes.

My '93 is stock, and I have at least 45k on the current front pads (only the second set since new). My Ex has 92k on it now, and I changed brakes and rotors in the high 40s. My driving is a mix, not a lot of highway. I'm going to have to change the fronts soon, mostly because the rotors are starting to rust on the inboard side, and the inboard pads are starting to wear as a result.

If you're not riding the brakes, you have a system problem. Do you have any pulse in the brakes, are the inboards wearing faster than the outboards? Any indication that your calipers are hanging up? Are you lubing the caliper slide pins and/or replacing them when you change the brakes?

I had cross drilled Rotors and did not notice a differance. If you ask me $125 a rotor or $30 a rotor.

I use Raybestos and they seam to be Holding up ok on my 92 with 32" tires

Raybestos. I'm gettin my pads changed this week. Gonna go with 'em.

raybestos:

avaiable at:

pepboys, kragens/checker/shuck's, grand auto

maybe autozone

STAY AWAY FROM MIDAS, I dont care what warranty they give, they suck.
They didnt install the anti-rattle clips, they wore out after 1 year (pads and rotors, drums, shoes, etc) AND THEY BASICALLY SUCK!

Everything they touched on my truck turned to shi*, not gold. I spent over $1300 at Midas when I first got the truck, tie rods, brakes, shocks, etc...

I have since replaced all of that stuff again because they messed it up.

Bendix pads are the best, get the FLEET quality.

I run the Raebestos premium (red ones) because the price and availability were right. VERy happy with them.

Could also be your rear drums are fried or out of adjustment, meaning the fronts are doing all the braking and thus wearing out pads faster.....

I really like the Bendix better. Our E150 van used to eat pads also and we get premium Bendix about 3 years ago. well it wore through a set of those, and this time my dad got another set of bendix that was a step above (maybe that fleet grade) and so far they have been great. The cool thing was the origional set of bendix had the lifetime warentee deal. i am not sure if th enew ones did, but i assume they did too.
Also I would not get new rotors unless yours are warped or ground down to far. WHen you do the brakes have the rotors ground also. it will help the new brakes perform th ebest.

95XLT is hitting the nail on the head. Since I got the Raybestos fleet grade QuietStop pads, I have had zero trouble with these pads. Stopping is firm, pad wear is minimal and it doesn't seem to be grinding the rotors down at all(some say they would wear out the rotrs faster).

Raybestos..QuietStop. Worth the money.
