So about a month ago I replaced all 6 sets of brake pads (4 disc, and 2 for the parking brake drum), Everything went very well. I used Raybestos pads in the back and NAPA pads in the front. After putting on about 3k miles, I am still getting a ton of brake dust on my rims, but only in the front. I have replaced many pads in my day but never ran into this problem. Is there a proportional valve somewhere? I assume it is all done electrically though. Any suggestions??

I had this problem back in the day on my ranger... I used cheaper brand pads on my disks... We're giving off tons of dust, went to a higher quality pad, and that solved my problem.

From what they say Raybestos is the best!

Brake dust accumulates kinda quick on mine. I got into a routine of washing the truck inside and out every Sunday. Not only does this keep the rims shining, but it keeps the truck looking good, so when i comes time to sell the truck, it looks like the day I bought it.

I need suggestions. I drive my truck fast on the highways and I have a tendency to brake hard. I'm considering replacing the pads this weekend. What should I get?

I dont know if they make these for X's, but for my dad's mercedes, they make these "inserts" you put between the rim and the brakes and they eliminate all brake dust on your rims. I dont know the names of these, but performance products used to carry them.

Yup try MattStarr's idea.

I've been told that aftermarket brakes will make more dust than a Motorcraft part. Not sure if it is true or not.

I'm wondering, why did you use Raybestos on the rear and only NAPA ones on the front?

Maybe try putting a set of Raybestos on the front. I'm assuming that the NAPA parts are quite low in quality.

Well it was a matter of where I was when I bought them. I was at my dads place when the front ones were starting to squeak, and he lives by NAPA, so thats where I bought the front pads for 36.50, and when I came home I replaced the rears from Checker A.K.A. Kragen with the raybestos for only 29.99. Napa usually makes better replacement parts, so I figured the napa ones would be better. And if you have ever replaced the pads you would know there is a large difference between the front and rear calipers, so I wouldnt be able to just swap the two. But I'll try those inserts and let you know how they work.
