Shackle Replacement

I know this is a common problem among explorers especially in areas where they dump alot of salt. and my car is no exception, on the right side the shackle is rusted all the way through and I was looking for replacements and found these:

they look identical and I havent been able to find any others except for ones that lift the back end. would the ones above be suitable?

Ya, like you said they look identical to the OE Shackles. I think those would work just fine.

Any year explorer shackles to 01 should fit. Try junk yards or parts stores.

Just have an air hammer ready to pound out the bolt. It will be a big time pain to remove the old shackle. While your in there be sure to clean up the perches that mount to the frame. They tend to become equally as rusted with road salt. Peel off any of the powder coat that is loose, clean as much rust as possible and then use a good rust proofing (like naval jelly or such). Then undercoat the whole thing.
On my 95 ranger I had to use a combination of penetrating oil, air hammer, and a little heat to get the bolt out. It took me over an hour for one bolt but it finally broke free. Be very careful with the heat (if used) you don't want to mess up the rubber inserts. I am told they are a major PITA to replace.

It just took a lot of work and time, but you will get them. Oh and be sure to replace the hardware, stainless would be good, otherwise a good grade 8 set of zinc bolts and nuts is good too. just be sure to undercoat everything to make sure it is all well protected.

Edit: OK I noticed the shackles you are bidding on come with the hardware, NM on that portion ;-)
