OK, had some warranty work to replace back-up camera, Now I have a warning chime whenever I put Ex in Reverse. It's a three-tone chime similar to the tone when the vehicle is started. Dealer says this is normal and all new EX do this.
VERY annoying, especially when combined with the "getting closer to the wall" tone and the cross traffic warning. How can I disable the Reverse tone:thumbdwn:

Mine does not do this. Only tones I get when in reverse is if I am too close to something and the reverse sensors pick it up. But nothing by simply shifting into reverse.

There is no tone on mine when shifting into reverse.
It doesn't sound normal if it keeps ringing and mixes with the other warnings.
See what other 2013 owners say.

BTW, there really isn't a start up chime either. That is the seatbelt chime you hear. If you do up your seatbelt before you start the Ex, there will be no chimes.

Ahhh you may have gotten the "leave me the fu%* alone" answer that is going around these days from ford dealers. The infamous "thats normal" answer...

OP shows 2011 Explorer under his name, so I assume this is the vehicle he's referring to, not a 2013

Yes, you are correct. I didn't look there. What threw me off was the mention that the service guy told him that all new Explorers do that. Thanks.

Back up Chime

When I bought my 2011 Ford Explorer, there was no "back-up chime", only the warning beeps and the approaching vehicle warnings. When the dealership did a software update, there is now a chime (same chime as the start-up chime) the entire time the car is in reverse. The dealership said that this is now the way that all explorers are and that there is no way to undo the update. My friend just bought the same truck (only hers is 2012) and there is no chime? Has anyone found a way to disable this chime? It is unbelievably distracting along with all of the other noises!

My 2013 does not have this

What software update are you referring to? MFT V3.2.2? If so, I did that update and there are no chimes when I go in reverse.
The 'start up' chimes you hear are the seatbelt warning chimes. Do your belt up before starting the vehicle and there will be no chimes.

Yup, Gen2 3.2.2 Dealer says can't figure it out, seat belts secure at start and no change. I was hoping to disable the chime entirely. Thanx for your advice, however.
