Can you tell me what the proper term for the shock absorber in this picture is?
It's not the main absorber. This one is in front of the differential and in no way connected to the leaf springs.

Thanks!

that is called the 5th shock, it is supposed to help with axle wrap. most people jsut remove it and run without it

do a search her for 5th shock, should find its name, i am used to is as the 5th shock... might be differential torque shock, or differential torque rod or something liek that

Or transverse shock, I just bought all five Bilsteins for my 98 truck.

Thanks for the super quick replies!!!

I removed my 5th shock years ago with no noticeable difference in ride or handling.

Well it looks similar to a steering stabilizer(the guy writing the book thinks), damn idiots, LOL.

Also called an axle dampner or and "axel wrap" shock by some aftermarket companies. It will help the truck from "dog tracking" on a washboard road, but other than that I don't think it does much.
