Just got used oil analysis done, and the results don't look too good:

(For reference, here's what the oil started out at.)

Having said that, it runs great and consumes virtually no oil, despite a very minor [what I believe is a] rear main seal leak.

I did flush the radiator at the same time. Coolant had been in there a year and a half, and it looked a little reddish. I have often noticed small bubbles in the overflow tank while engine was warm, but not since changing the coolant and oil two weeks ago.

we'll it is a 14 year old vehicle, so some wear is to be expected. i didn't see where you list your miles. the 4.0L OHV is known to develop coolant leaks. this could be the intake manifold gasket related, head gasket or (although less probable) a cracked head.

i wouldn't be unduly concerned, but like they said, monitor your coolant level closely. long term there's an engine rebuild in your future (or a newer vehicle).

188673 miles.

i see it now. i thought it was prbly listed there somewhere, that's why i said i didn't see it... lol

i'd replace the intake manifold gaskets. they may be the source of the coolant leak and it's an easy/inexpensive repair compared to head gaskets. 188k is getting up there for an OHV V6, but they can go another 100k. i use Mobil 1 full synthetic 10w30 in my V8's. two of them are pushing 200k with no issues whatsoever (knock on wood) and i'm hoping for 300k+.

Yeah, I know. I just wanted to point it out and show you so you can better help him. :)

Thanks for the advice. I would LIKE to keep this thing running forever, but I'm hoping to not have to rebuild the engine before 300,000. No obvious symptoms of problems, and trying to keep it that way. Hoping this isn't the beginning of the end.
