1994 XLT,
I am thinking of making my 96 Limited into an offroad machine. It is fully loaded with all the toys, but only the V6. I only payed $1300 for it. Even with 163K on it she runs great. most everything works but the Cd changer. It even runs better than my offroad 95 XLT. I think it would be a kick a$$ offroad machine with the moonroof, leather and three stage paint.
Thoughts ideas etc???

Since you already have the '95 for off road, why make the '96 off road too? Seems like you'll have two vehicles for the same thing. If you really like to off road that makes sense, but with two vehicles, sometimes it's better to have one for daily driving and one for play. Your sig says the '96 is a "possible race project"..what about that idea?

if it's in better shape, make it the wheeler. the other one can be a pavement pounder, since that is much easier on a vehicle.

as per anime4x4's response, i agree. Just keep one for wheeling. Somtimes it's just nice to have a daily driver that gets good gas mileage, and the one to wheel in/ show off occasionally on the road. Plus, when you have a mostly stock daily driver you blend in with the crowd, rather than stick out giving cops all the more reason to ticket you

Personally, i'd build another offroad truck, but more of a show rig. Nice wheels, good AT's, no lockers maybe lsd's instead, no body protection etc.

SUV's and trucks built for the street look off to me :)

Well the race project would be if something major happened to it. Engine or tranny going out. But I could do it with either one. I am thinking of reversing the 95 and possibly putting what I did with the 95 on the 96 and vise versa. I am looking that even though the 96 has more mileage it runs better than the 95. I had an oil change done at work on the 95 on Fri and they checked everything and said it needs all the fluids changed. While I will be getting them changed. There are issues with it.

theres soo many things you could make it into,
offroad-
3" body lift, 2" susp,35" tires, 4.56-5.13 gears, front and rear lockers...but with the ifs your not gonna have much suspension travel
street-
lower 2-3", 18" deep dish wheels, 28/10.5/18" street tires, intake, tb, chip, pulley, headers, highflow cats, and exhaust and 4.10 gears.. now that sounds like one badass explorer

if you want a wheeler you be better off sell your 96 and buyin a 91-94
unless you got a deep pockets

I may just leave the 96 as it is for now. Continue to build the 95. If anything happens to the 95 I will transfer everything to the 96 and vice versa.
