I found a 2003 Sport but with 160K KM on it (12K CDN). Test drove it and it seemed to drive and shift pretty good. Pretty nice car overall. It was quite cold today -10C or so so there was some creeking from the rear hatch.

From doing some reading about the drive train (transmission) I'm having second toughts about it since there seems to be quite the failure rate and this thing has quite a few klick on it already. This was a one owner car. The dealer (Ford Dealer) said they actually might have records of work done on the car at their shop but I wont know till tomorrow.

I will be getting a 1 year warranty with it for about $800 which covers the transmission but just dont want to deal with the headaches.

Just walk away, Just walk away. Seems your going to be dumping a couple grand more into it sooner than later.

If by Sport you mean the 2 door model (versus the trim level), I'd say run away. First the Sport (2 door) model is based off an entirely different obsolete platform (it is NOT a 3rd gen Explorer). And, due to its shorter wheelbase, is far more prone to rollovers.

is not worth it buddy.

in an explorer you are better of getting an older year explorer with low miles than a newer one with high mileage.

look around and don't rush to get a car right away
