I have been spending the summer at my place up in the boondocks of Wisconsin. Now it's time to go back home on an eight hour trip. Since mechanics are a little bit of a distance from here (as are most things) I have been doing what I can on my car from what I've learned on this forum. But I don't know much, and I have never dealt with tires.

I filled them with air the other day and noticed that they had flat spots on the inside of the tire, where the tread meets the smooth wall of the tire. Also, there were little inward bulges in a couple of places on the tires. I just want to know if I can drive on them and get back home without replacing them.

I've got some pictures attached, any help or advice would really be appreciated. I just need to know if I should have them replaced, or if I can get more miles out of them, or if I should just park the car on the side of the road with the title in the glove box. :)

THANKS!

I would say it looks like you might need an alignment. Also the inward bludges is one of 2 things. Most would think it is a broken belt in the tire. And if the truck is walking on the road then that might be the case. But first I would look at the tire, and if there are 3 of them evenly spaced. It is just where the factory joins the belt during manufacturing. I bought a new set of Goodyears for my work truck and took them back the next day. Only to have the guy (personal friend) tell me that the tires were okay. So to answer your question. I would drive on them home. But have someone check them out when you get there.

Look at http://www.firestoneuae.com/faq.asp for info on the sidewall indentations. I would worry more about bubbles in the sidewall. That is internal damage.

Does the front passenger side front show metal cords...?

Why would you park it on the side of the road with the title in it for tire? Thats abit irrational, dont you think. If you need tires, its like 300 bucks. and about 60-70 for an alignmant that will go 50000 miles. i agree with the alingment. but the tires should make it home. if not, buy new tires, or replace the ones that really need replaced untill you can get them all.

Thanks for the replies... Glad to not be worrying about them the entire trip home. There's no metal showing anywhere on the tire, I assume thats a good thing. And, to clarify, I wouldn't leave my car on the side of the road because of tires. I meant that to be an obvious joke. There should be a special font or something for that of thing. :)

A sarcastic font. That would be great. It would look like this: "Should I leave the truck on the side of the road with the title in the glove box?:D:rolleyes::confused::p:" :D

Ha i see. yea, im bad with internet scarcasm. i get mad at people when they are joking!! :) but yea, you should be fine!!

How does this sound...?

  1. rotate tires, front to back
  2. get alignment
  3. drive home
  4. buy new tires
