What is the purpose of the sheet metal shroud between the tranny and the engine. It's a PITA to keep in place while re-connecting the two. Is it just a shield for dirt?

Thanks

Jeff

yes dust shield, and its also a spacer, it is required

the locating pins on both sides of the block should keep it in place while stabbing the trans a couple of pieces of duct tape can work also, just put them in a place where you can remove them :)

Required for what besides dust?

a spacer

seriously that 1/16" is required to be there, I see where you are going and NO you cannot stab them together without the shield

Its called a dust shield, or scatter shield it likely does both as well as provide a spacer between engine and trans

pita yes but required

I wonder what would happen if it was left out? But the tape idea sounds like the ticket.

We accidently left it out of Painter Ken's truck when we swaped the motors out. So far there hasn't been any ill effects from it not being there.

That plate is used to locate the starter correctly on the engine.

nice :)
