side body molding

on the molding that runs down the side of my x there is a strip of chromed plastic that runs down the middle of the molding.........can you pop that strip out or is it made into the molding? i'm wanting to paint that chromed strip black but would like to take it out to do so if possible.

I'm not sure if it comes out but, I think if you could just prep and tape it really well, it would turn out just fine. It would also be done in about an hour that way.

it comes off...its held on by the same type glue stuff as the emblems...
