sorry, just follow up question, is the side view mirror made from glass or a plastic.
i've search if glass a simple toothpaste will work, if it plastic plastx or some headlight restoration kit.

My question is what would be causing these scratches? They don't just magically appear. Someone, or something is affecting the glass in ways in which it shouldn't. Are you sure you haven't used an abrasive cleaner?

Just checked mine and it is glass. After two years absolutely no scratches! The only way to get scratches on glass is not using a surfactant and towel/sponge. Do you use those "no-water" car cleaning products? If so you are grinding sand into the glass/paint. Or someone is using something metal to scrape off ice and snow.

i bought my explorer second hand, so i do not know the history. only the driver side view mirror has plenty of scratches and some in the windshield. what product and procedure do you recommend to remove this annoying scratches. i do not want to make them worst by experimenting. thank you
