Sirius mounting/questions

youre in a tight position. The XM ready feature for this Sony radio requires that you use a universal XM radio. XM sells a cable that will connect to your radio, and connect to your XM receiver, but you need to make sure that your XM receiver will accept the plug from the XM cable.

If you go to crutchfield.com, search for Sony XM, and choose the only product under satillite radio adapter. Then click on the picture, and you will see what the cable looks like.

The next thing we need to know is the model of your XM radio.

The remote port is used to change your radio stations, volume, etc. If you were to have steering wheel controls, the connection from those controls would plug into this port.

Oh yeah, you don't have iPod control with that radio as stated above. Thats the Bus-In port, only to be used for Sony's CD changer or this XM cable.

The iPod adapter is available for this unit.

Ahh, i didn't realize that you have a bus audio input. Its not typically recommended, but you can use this as an audio input. You can get a cable with rca's on one end, and a 3.5mm male stereo plug on the other end. You should adjust your aux volume on the radio.

The reason why it's not typically recommended is because the radio is looking for voltage level of a preamp. Your unit will be outputting headphone volume levels.

Just try and level those volumes out so you don't damage or overdrive the audio input on the radio.

there may be, but i haven't seen one from Sony. Can you post a link to one?

im hoping the cables for an xm radio will work for a sirius radio.. bc im rockin a sirius stratus 4 dock and play. thanks for all the input guys.

read the link for the ipod adapter.. says it works with head units produced 2005 and later.. if im not mistaken my head unit is at least 5-6 yrs old

The plug is universal... I have one in my truck (the plug) that's been there since the late 90s(from a previous truck). That's the problem with the sites and advisers, 98formula is correct - the info these sites provide make you wanna turn on AM radio only :)

actually, they sell an XM kit for your radio. heres a picture http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/products/2008/700/h700XMSON1-f.jpeg

You can either buy that, or this is your best bet. http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?search=FMDA25&i=607FMDA25

This will put your modulated FM signal directly into your radio. Meaning that there is nothing happening wirelessly. MUCH MUCH better reception than the wireless FM modulator, and the FMEA.

ok, from what ive been reading ive gathered the following 2 ideas. 1, i can purchase the above adapter which will let me control my dock and play through my sony stereo. but i am still using the FMEA. i do see a port like i have on the back of my head unit but it doesnt list a cable or adapter to connect to my head unit, it only shows the av cables.

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-dQtQ3asPLKZ/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?i=607scc1

or i can buy this tuner (even though i already have one) which is hard wired in to my head unit and i would still have to buy the first product to tune the radio through my sony head unit.

am i getting all of this right? i just wish there was an easier way to get my dock and play to play straight through my sony stereo instead of having to bounce it off my antenna through an empty preset. the first product i listed, the SNYC1 has a unilink outlet that looks similar to what you guys are calling the Bus-In port, is the unilink port the same as this bus-in port? is there a cable i can buy to tie together my dock and play, this snysc1 and my sony head unit?

haha I'm confused. Are you trying to us Sirius or XM?

Sirius, but the radio says XM ready... no Sirius in 03?

oh hahaha. I thought you wanted to use XM radio on your Sony deck. Yeah, I would def use the FM Direct Cable with your Sirius unit.

That unit above is out of stock w/ Crutchfield, and it's for Sirius whereas he has XM on the h/u. I don't know, but I would either get a new h/u or go with xm. If you hook up this adapter, there's nowhere for an mp3 player - should it be needed.

he doesn't want MP3s, he wants to use his Sirius Radio on his XM Ready H/U. Keep the H/U, get the cable, they sell them almost everywhere you can buy Sirius equipment. I'm using one in my car and it sounds great.

the only reason my head unit says XM ready is bc sirius wasnt around yet. basically all it means is my head unit is satelite radio ready meaning that it can be used as a tuner if you have a hard wired receiver or a module hooked to the sirius radio.. it will display channels, scroll station names, song names, and you can change stations with it.

i think it is going to be easier, cheaper for me to just buy the fm antenna adapter. bestbuy has it for $30 in stock.. more than crutchfield but they are out of stock.

thanks all for the help.. keep diggin maybe we can find a way to communicate with russian satelites through my Sony XPlod head unit

Ha! :) What does your fiance listen to? Maybe the answer is there...

oh, you are in trouble! :) i hope she doesn't see this -
