skipping on acceleration

My dad has a 1997 ford explorer limited with the V8 5.0L. In mornings when leaving for work (after a cold start) in some places when he go's to get back on the gas the car skips, hesitates, misfires, how ever your suppose to say it, but after car is warm or parked somewhere for little while its fine for rest of day, only happens after cars been sitting awhile, he said its getting worse and worse each morning.

Is the vehicle loosing coolant. Mine (96 4.0) will loose a bit of coolant and foul #4 plug on occasion. Have the symptoms you are describing.

Check engine light was on and pulled up bad oxygen sensor for pass. side upstreamcould that cause this problem?

A bad o2 wont cause a misfire. What was the actual code? A lean or rich condition reported by the o2 is very different then a bad o2.
