Slipping into Reverse from Park

Has anyone heard of a problem with the 2013 Explorer slipping into Reverse from Park? Mine did it on Thursday and did nearly $12K worth of damage to the back end and driver side with just over 8,000 miles on it. I could care less about the damage but my 2 year old was strapped in her car seat in the back when it did it and I was not in the car. The people at the Ford place looked at me like I was a dark shade of blaze orange when I said what had happened. Just wondering if anyone else had the problem or had heard of it happening. If it was a freak occurance that would only happen to one person in a million years that person is me 10 out of 10 times except when it comes to winning lottery tickets.

I don't think it's physically possible for the vehicle to "slip" from park to reverse.
1. The brake has to pressed, which disengages a locking pin on the shifter
2. The button on the shifter has to be pressed
3. A decent amount of effort has to be applied to get it out of park

Are you sure it was all the way in park before you got out?

Yeah, I never put it in gear or touched the gear selector. All I did was turn it on and the screen said no phone connected so I went back in the house to get my phone and 10 seconds later the car was smashed into a tree.

As stated, there is a locking pin that wont release until the brake is pressed. I do not know how that is physically possible. There are 2 separate locking mechanisms independent from each other. I cant see both failing mechanically at the same time.
