2012 explorer limited
I have a 2012 limited Explorer, with a 3.5 V6. 4x4 120,000 miles.
I thought it seemed sluggish, so I did a 0-60 run. Took 10 seconds. Isn't that slow. Most places online are claiming 7-8 seconds.

Ever replace the fuel filter? imp

I did not. Just plugs. I'll replace filter and see what happens.

Good luck trying to find it. If there is one, it may part of the fuel pump as a few posts have said. The fuel pump sits on top of the fuel tank. I have also not had any luck finding one doing an Internet search. The ones shown on the AutoNation website seem to be for diesel engines or not for the 5th gen. Perhaps someone will better luck finding it.

The filter is not individually serviceable on these cars. When you were changing the plugs, how did the coils look?

I didn't see anything suspicious, but I am not mechanic, so I wouldn't know if they where faulty. They didnt have any corrosion on them

Well...at 120K might be a good idea to swap them out. They're not THAT expensive, you can get off-brand ones for around $35 each. Or you can get Accels for around $400 for the set.

10 sec 0-60 isn't that bad. How is the rest of the drivetrain?

Gosh, am I ever behind the times! The pumps are no longer in-tank? Good, and bad idea. I've always used the in-line pump frame mounted ass specified for F-series trucks in all my builds as conversions from carburetted. imp

Thanks. Ill check into that. The rest of
the drivetrain, seems to be solid.

I recently had a 2014 Edge that had bad multiple misfires but never threw a check engine light. Every ignition coil boot was arcing inside of there to the plug body. Under light acceleration it drove fine but when I mashed on it it stumbled bad.

I changed all six plugs and changed all the coil on plug boots and ran like a top after. Huge difference in power. Unfortunately if this is your issue you will have to change the plugs again along with the boots. The carbon Arc will not come off the plugs.

If the engine was misfiring, you would have surely noted it on your 0-60 test run. I had misfiring occurring recently on my plugs that had 96k on them (2011- 3.5 N.A). No CEL initially either. The misfires were cuts in power delivery and caused the tranny to act funny and shift funny. Was very obvious something was wrong. Finally, after flooring it once (like a 0-60 run), I got a misfire code to trip. New plugs with silicone on the boots took care of it.

Assuming it accelerated clean and smoothly on your test run, I cant see misfires being the cause. I am not an engine expert by any means, but I would ensure your air filter is in good shape. Air flow is critical. I have heard of cats slowly plugging off, not allowing engine to breath with a slow loss of power as the cat (s) plug off more. I wouldn't go replace the cats necessarily, but it could be a cause, and at some point you would probably start getting faults. Maybe muffler is plugged up also. Or possible exhaust pipe is smashed, reducing air flow. Some easy things to check.

Also, did you remove intake manifold when you replaced plugs. Are you sure it went back together properly? Gasket did not come out of position, etc. An air leak here may cause funny things to happen. A quick google search shows loss of power and fuel economy a result of intake manifold gasket leak. I used a new gasket when I replaced my plugs. $10 piece of mind.

I swear my 2011 is sluggish also compared to when it had 40k miles (when we got it). But it runs good overall, with no CEL, so I'm not pushing my luck at this point.

Thanks for all the input. I will let you all know if I find anything that makes a difference.
