I have a 97 EB Explorer with the 5.0 and it seems to have a slow response time from when I give it some gas to when I actually feel the vehicles response. The engine also sounds like it's knocking, especially when going up hills, but the knocking is very soft sounding. Probably sounds strange. I have a K&N drop in, just replaced PCV and plugs with the Bosch +4's. Hope someone has some suggestions. Thanks.

i dont know too much about the in-depth technicalities of your problem, but a little while ago there was a thread called "cheap thrills" i think. it dealt with slack developing in the throttle cable and how to tighten it up, thus giving you better response. i the total cost for parts was like only two bucks. you might have more of a problem on your hands, but check it out; maybe an easy fix.

Renz,
Is your A/C on? i notice slower response when my A/C is on. try turning it off for a while see if the problem goes away.

If thats not it you say it sounds as it is knocking. Is it a hissing sound or a sound like bells ringing? i highly doubt it's knocking since all engines now have knock sensors and the computer will adjust so knocking doesn't occur. If it's a hissing sound it may be a vaccuum leak. If it's a sound like bells ringing, I dunno what it might be, but my truck is in the shop now for that problem so I'll know later today.

If none of the above corrects the problem, I would change gas. try a higher octane...say amoco or some better gas. My truck doesn't like Marathon gas I figured out after it ran like crap for a tankful.
