My ford explorer starts up pretty slow. Starts up fine but it takes a couple of seconds. Is there a way to make it start up faster?

corrosion on the battery cables/connections

i would check not only that but also the fuel filter / fuel pump pressure and also the air filter .when was the last time it had a tune up ? new plugs ,fuel injector cleaning ,etc....... ( if you all ready check all of the above then sorry just trying to throw out some ideas for you ) .

last on a side note ..... when was the last time you cleaned the upper intake system ? i know you've most likelly know about seafoam but you may have to do what i did .mine was so bad when i bought it that i serverlly dought that sea foam could cut that crap on the inside of the upper intake ,so i took mine off and put it in a tub with gas and let it sit over night ...amazing how well it cleaned up and in all the small dead spots in the intake ( all the hard to get to areas ) and when i got it all back together started up the first time and ran smooth as can be relativelly speaking.

by starting slow, do you mean cranking slow?? or just taking a couple of secs to fire (normal crank speed).

slow cranking was mentioned already. wont duplicate it.

normal cranking but taking a few to fire can be low fuel press (either filter, or pump), or totally normal.

the OHV 4.0 uses a distributorless ignition, so it is possible that the crankshaft may have to turn 2 full revolutions before the engine computer knows what cylinder is ready for spark/fuel/ect. in otherwords, it could be normal. but it shouldn't take more than 2 rev's of the crank for the computer to figure it out. Now, it may take a few more revs to get fire in the holes, for various other reasons.

Thanks guys.

New plugs and wires is going to help a lot.
