My 91 sport never gets up to operating tempreture. Since temps have been colling off this Fall the engine temp gauge has not been getting off C. I will get some warm air after a while from the heater but it takes a while. My gas milage has also been low about 12-13 mpg around town. I am planing to change the thermostat this weekend but was wondering if I should check anything else while I am at it. Any advice would be appreciated.

sound like your on the right track.... just make sure your anti freeze is good..... also check your vaccume at the brake booster... make sure its between 20-23 in hg.... and stable....not jumping around.... low vaccume can also not allow the vents in the a/c system to close and open...

i would flush the system too , as long as you are
in their. just my.02 cents ....Larry

I also have the same problem. My x dosen't run ever over the "N" in norml on the guage. My antifreeze is good till -50 and I borrowed a summer front from work to help warm it up( soon to be a winter front ) BEsides the obvious loss in milage what other problems are associated with not running hot. It runs hot enough so It wont wear prematurly but I would like the better milage. I usually get 350-400k per tank.

Your thermostat is stuck open.

I've replaced mine several times.

Beside loss of gas mileage, you are likely to experience increased carbon buildup, loss of performance and reduced throttle responce.
