Ok, today i installed my auto dimming/ auto lamp mirror. I was pritty proud because this is the first time i have ever done anything to my car without help from dad. Well it took me most of the day and now its dark and i am lost. The auto dimming part works great, but the autolamp feature doesn't seem to like me...its not working. I was told by BIG COUNTRY that i needed to find my park lamp relay. I went where he told me and i saw a long box and i looked inside and i didn't really see wires so i decided to go with someone else and hook to the wire to the big loom of wires by the brake pedal and nothing. I tested the wire i chose and it does carry pwr when i turn the knob on the dash so i know i have the right one. Then i thought it would make more sense to hook it up to the park lamp relay because thats what switches the lights on, and i hooking it up where it seems to be after the fact. How do i get to this relay..... help

Let me know what color wire you spliced into and where at for each wire you have. Also let me know what color wires you don't have connected yet. I have a diagram so I should be able to figure it out for you.

Ok,
This morning i went out and looked in the jack compartment and found the white/purple wires from what i am assuming is the lamp relay. When we spliced into the wire nothing happened. Then we went up to the mirror and tested to see if it has any current coming off the white/purple wire and it didn't. We held it up to the red/yellow and when we did it brought the park lights on but not the head lights. So i think i am in the right location in the back i just don't know where to hook the wires in so that both park lights and headlights come on in tandom. i can send pics if you have an e-mail address. thanks

Do you have keyless entry?

The W/P wire off the mirror shouldn't have power. It applies ground.

yep, the only thing i don't have on my explorer is the message center its pritty loaded.

oh, ok i thought it was broken or something. I am a novice at this i have no clue about any of this so if you could help me through it.
thanks

Okay... When you hit your lock button on your remote twice, it flashes the parking lights and the headlights doesn't it? My '97 does and if yours does too...

You have a white and purple wire coming off of your anti-theft module. (behind the left rear panel) Splice it to the white and purple wire coming off the mirror.

I'm glad to help. I know a little bit about reading wiring diagrams, but I'm just an amatuer myself.

I'm going to be working on my truck, but I'll keep checking back every few minutes to see if we can't get it wired up for ya. :)

Ok let me try it!

Yeah my headlights do flash...
but where is the anti theft thing is it white or black?? i have 2 things back there...

Ok i got it and it works!!! thanks very much Yob.......

Does this mean I qualify as a 'smart person' now? :D
