Snap sound in front end

Here's a new bit of joy my Ex has brought me.

When I accelerate there is this 'snap' sound in the front end. It isn't really loud, sounds like two solid pieces of metal banging together for just a second. It only seems to happen during acceleration and doesn't do it all the time.

Any ideas? It doesn't seem like anything is majorly wrong, but sometimes its hard to tell till pieces come flying out.

You sure it isn't coming from your u-joints perhaps? How does the truck sound when you go into reverse?

Going into reverse seems to be normal.

It could be the u-joint but that seems odd for a vehicle with only 50K on it. Maybe I can look in there this weekend.

If you're sure it's coming from the front (Sounds have an amazing way of travelling through the frame) it might be your suspension banging as the weight shifts. Ball joints usually make a pop sound, but those are what go out the most on X's. I doubt your torsion bars have any problems, but there is a kevlar patch that can go and cause a "bang" sound.

I'm starting to wonder if this is somehow releated to the "wandering" steering problem I have lately. Maybe something is just loose in the front end, and the sound the metal shifting around.

If you are having a steering problem, please check it out before you go driving around town. If a tie-road snaps on you...it's not pretty.
