Sneaky pics of my new enclosure

COuple of questions:

Are you running the subs in parralell mode? are they 8 ohm subs? Just wondering, I assume you are runing a 2 ohm load w/o looking upt he specs of your subs or amp.
I also assume you are wiring all the subs together off one channel since the enclosure is not divided.

Any idea how much volume (airspace) you have built there??
If so how did you calculate the volume?

I wasn't saying anything bad about your setup Hartman... Just funny that two people have a pretty similar setup and are constructing it at the exact same time...

Hartman, I don't think anyone was making a negative remark. Calm down dude. It looks great. It also looks like typhoons.;)

Ok yeah, I can't think of my own ideas, so I copied off his box. You win.

The subs will be run at 2.67 ohms. Here's the diagram:

I will not be running chambers just because it's a pain to do with a fiberglass box of this nature. I was told by a professional that it will sound good as long as the airspace is within spec. I plan on measuring airspace by filling up the enclosure with packing peanuts and measuring the amount it takes to fill it up. I will make adjustments to the volume if neccessary.

Hartman, sweet box....oh and the 3 ring design has been done many times before has it not? I mean there are only so many ways subs can fit in a cargo space and a enclosure can be made...he is not copying anyone elses design, just because it is not completely oriiginal, its all been done before...

"there is always a bigger faster boat then yours"

I have heard of using the peanuts before to measure the volume, seems simple enough. Isnt their another method the pro's use, like something with a air pump/suction???

Yeah I think there's a couple of different methods, but the packing peanuts seem to be the easiest way for me to do it.

I think it looks sick, nice job!!
I am building a center console for my truck (mock up phase right now) and I know how much work it can be for stuff like this.

Also no matter how original I think my design is, low and behold I get online and on one of the Ranger boards I found about 5 other guys making very similar consoles at the same time!! Small world.........

That's gonna be nice man. I also opted out of doing the divided chambers since it is ported. Now as a sealed, I always did chambers because if one sub went it would take them all out. As long as nothing blows though, you got zero probs.

HU/components/batteries? Let get this thread supersized man!

I started planning this project way before typhoon posted construction pics of his. I guess only one person is allowed to have a fiberglass box.

hehe to be fair, I ripped my old system out July 3rd of 2003 to start work on this. I didn't post things like my DVD install way back then. What can I say? I'm slow :D

what is the extra + - on each sub?

Also, I seriously do find it funny that two people come up w/ similar designs... i wasn't being sarcastic or anything. I think both of you are just as sexy:eek:

Is it better to have subs facing front/back/up? can you have a combo - like a few subs facing up, a few facing back? would there be any drawbacks to that?

The extra + and - are the second Voice Coil for each sub.

As far as inverting vs. normal. Output is affected, but VERY little. I had to go baskets out, not just for sex appeal, but because I needed 12 ft^3 but I refused to have the box go over my back seat.

how about which way the subs themselves face... as in - facing the roof, facing the hatch, facing the engine, etc =P

In SUV's, facing up or rear tends to have the best results. To the rear will give the wave more time to mature. I've owned nothing but SUV's since I started to drive, and I've had at least 10 systems. To the rear always seemed to pan out best.

MORE PICS!!! :)

Def more pics man, i love that design tho! makes me wanna go out and try something like that. BTW how much airspace is that box? looks pretty big for a sealed box

The box looks bigger in the pics than it actually is for some reason. The total airspace should be around 3.5 cu/ft. Like I said, I will use the said method to check and make adjustments after the box is solid.

As for the head unit, I will be keeping my Sony Xplod unit for now. I will upgrade in the future hopefully. I just picked up an Optima Yellow Top, so that should provide plenty of juice. The wiring is Rockford, 4 gauge power and twisted RCAs. I'm going to be building some pods for the doors for components in the future as well.

Actually to be fair, I ripped out your old system, while you slept. And another thing, what is wrong with astro's getting all the credit?;) :D

I soaked the fleece in resin today, and stunk up the whole house with fiberglass fumes in the process. Needless to say my parents aren't too happy about it and made me set the enclosure on the front porch for the night. :D

I will start laying some mat down on Saturday after I go pick up a new air powered DA sander.

DA Sanders are GOD. Good call man.

wow i wish i could build something that custom in my trac with out loseing the back seat.

dont want to lose the backseat? Easily resolved, ;) :D , Just cut the bed!  We have cut out quite a few beds, it works very well.
