Snorkel questions

i got a gen 1 explorer want to do a snorkel but i dont want to use any dryer vent ****. that suff is always ripping and stuff. I can tube out of my car with pvc but can I put the air filter in the box at the top of the snorkel on the outside of the car?? or will it fill with water when it rains? Has this ever been done

Not all of 1st generatoin, but should give you ideas.

also, use GOOGLE to find snorkel attachments for vehicles. plenty of information, just search a little.

yeah i know i have read all those but could i put the air filter at the top of the snorkel or would that not work

yea, it would.. but it would look kinda crappy. get an arb top

k , i could rig it to have a cone filter in the arb top . why would it be crappy. i could run abs off the mass airflow censor and then out my fender then up you know then i could just put the cone filter in the snorkel top then no water would get in it
??

Water would still get in. Especially when it rains since the paper filter would get soaked with water. An ARB top is designed to let water out.

so which way is a better idea filter at the top or stock with it flowing through

Most of the peolple here as well as ARB leave the stock airbox in place and just run the snorkel from it. That way you can just replace the stock filter when it gets dirty instead of constantly buying an expensive cone filter over and over.

oh that makes sense but most cone filters cant you just wash?

oil charged ones yes. But why continually clean one, or have one that is a pill to get to if you dont have to?

good point good point well today i am doing bedliner up the sides ....so after that ill pull the fender and see what im working with

Yea and plus an oil charged filter located outside of the vehicle is going to collect so much dust you'll probably end up cleaning it once a week.

oh and go with the 2 1/2" top.. the 3" is to big and i had to cut too much fender for the pipe to fit
