410Fortune,
I am like you and I do want everything to function correctly and as if it were stock.
The exception would be with my T-case. I would like to make my own circuitry/wiring for that so that I can shift completely manually and replace 'auto' with '2wd high'. so as far as the computer goes, i would like to 'turn off' the elctronic t-case programming as well. This is also in anticipation to a future manual t-case swap where I would eventually have to deal with this issue anyway.
I dont understand why you say i dont need the clutch cruise control shutoff anymore and i can bypass it. I would like to have this because it is the correct function, but that is not an issue anyway, because this circuitry is completely seperate from the computer circuitry and it is just a simple wiring issue. you can see from diagrams that you simply run the clutch switch in series with the brake pedal switch, so that either one of them will now shut off cruise control.
as far as start-up and reverse lights, again those are seperate circuits from the computer. they are strictly wiring issues. the reverse lights are just a direct replacement from the manual and the wires just need to be connected properly. and for start-up, you replace the neutral and park signal switches with the clutch pedal switch.
so I am unconcerned with the issues of start-up, reverse lights, and cruise control shut-off, these are strictly wiring issues that i know how to deal with and have nothing to do with the internal programming of the computer.
my concerns are:
1. aside from cruise control shut-off and start-up, the 3-way clutch pedal position switch has a 3rd function. looking at the wiring diagrams i've concluded a) this is a an added function for man trans that the auto trans negated, and b) unlike the first two functions, this function seems to be related to the computer programming and engine control. I am clueless as to what this function does.
2. the automatic transmission has a feature in where when you shift out of park and release the brake pedal, the doors will automatically lock. if i didn't refer to the wiring diagrams above, i would of assumed thats where the 3rd function of the clutch switch comes into play, but now it does not look like that. the only thing i can think of is that the manual trans just simply didnt have this door lock feature.
3. it seems as if a brand new design for the manual transmission is to have an Output Shaft Speed Sensor (OSS) where the older ones did not have. i have no idea as to why you need this either, but it obviously needs to send inputs to the engines computer, therefore needing special programming for that.
especially because of concerns 1. and 3. i feel that 'turning off' the automatic programming is insufficient. the computer will need additional programming to deal with these new functions that the automatic never had.
i have the '99 CD with the wiring diagrams. they are very good, but the problem is that i am refering to manual transmission wiring for a OHV and not the SOHC. so i have the 2001 and 2002 CD and it seems as if Ford (or whoever made these CDs) decided to cut-back on their wiring diagrams. the diagrams are terrible and little to no mention of any manual transmission wiring, just automatic. information on these 2002 manual SOHC trucks are extremely limited. this is why i was asking about the $50 wiring book by Helm and the $200+ service book by Helm. or are these just simply the same thing as the CD?
Thanks for anyones information,
-James
