My one friend has a 97 X with the SOHC and he's have some trouble with it. It acts like it wants to stall and the rpm's will drop below 500. They've had both recalls done on the motor. What else could be causing this, Fuel filter? Thanks for the help guys!

you have to take off the cover on the engine that says SOHC and under it near the back its silver. i got mine for i think about $80. i can get a pic of it tommorow.
EDIT: the IAC is the "idle air control" and does exactly what its anme says: controls the air at idle.

I just cleaned out the IAC on my Explorer because it was doing the same thing and she runs fine now. It is a silver cylinder shaped object, and is held on by two little bolts. It is very easy to take off. When you take it off, try to clean it with some carb. cleaner. Don't try and just replace it. Many times it just becomes clogged and the valve won't open all of the way.
