Solid Axle

Thanks for the info, what would you suggest for a steering setup then. I'm not sure what everyone else uses on here with their SFA, so anyone can help too. Thanks again.

Happy trails!!

Well as oso_polar told you guys i roll over my X.....
I´m sending the pics to Rick to see if he can post them so you'll see it..
The only good thing about it :D is that since i broke all my front end the insurence is giving the shop the money for all the repairs needed and the shop is going to do the swap for me and they will use the insurance money to do it.... not bad after all.......
well i´ll keep you informed about it..

I forgot to tell you guys,,,I decided to get the DANA 30 Cherokee HP, with 4.10 from 98+, using grand cherokee trac bars, and coil springs. I choose the grand ones cause i think it they hold a v8 they would have no problems holding a v6..
tell me if you think any other ideas..

remember grands also came with i6's. make sure you get the v8 coils as they will give you more lift. sorry about your rollover but good luck on the swap!
oh- the track bars are exactly the same on 6s and 8s. if you decide to use the steering setup, definately get the v8 one. the i6 tie rod is hollow while the v8 is solid.

So if i were to find a cherokee V8, the steering setup on that would work pretty good for our uses?

Happy trails!!

well it works ok for mine but i am making a hi steer crossover system to replace it. if your steering box is in a similar place then yes it will work just fine.

Hey hows it going i have been working on the d30 donated from a friend who has a wrangler under my 1st gen explorer.
Here goes:
stock 28 spline axles out in with 31 spline lockright locker, posi lock type cable to replace the vacume and motor, got the one for an cherakee, and 4.56 for the 33 or 35 (havent decided yet) there are also d44 axles that can be machined to fit the d30 housing i know the
j#%p word is a taboo thing but if ya check some of the j#%p forums there are useful information on the axle build up just a thought .....Since 9/11 i havent been able to work out all the kinks the axle is still on jackstands. Went to afghanistan to pay the taliban a lil visit and send them a message from uncle Sam but im back now with engine problems so the rest of the conversion will have to take a back seat till i get a new engine thanks for your time. And God Bless America

Not to change the topic of the post, but thanks! Your work is greatly appriciated.

Hey man, thanks for your time served in the east. I think i'm headed that way in march of next year.

You'll have to keep us posted on how things are going. You've got the setup of extactly what i want. I talked to the owner of our local 4x4 shop and told him i was in the market for a d30 HP. How much did the shafts and all that cost you? Thanks for the info, i might become your new best friend with this project!

Happy trails!!

Yeah I'll be following the project too. Eventually (when I have something else to drive everyday) I would like to ditch the IFS. The lift was a great idea at the time, but IFS is such a pain to troubleshoot, and to work on. You gotta pull the whole front end apart just to remove the diff cover!

Your welcome taxxman2k. i have a few more things on the axle to take care of like cutting off the old spring perch and relocating a new one over the axle im going to keep the YJ set up just beef up the leafs to hold the extra weight up oh another good thing about the d30 from the yj it measures 60'' across and that is about the same width as the 90-94 x 300 bucks to get the 31 spline axles and bearing kits and another 200 for the rear 8.8 it was a better choice for me. junk yards wanted 650 + for a d44 then to send it up to pheonix cuz no one out here can do the work was another 650 bucks. so all in all i got a builder for a lot less and just as durable as the 44.

PICS!

I second that ........ DOUBLE OUCH

OMG,

Glad everyone is ok. Any progress??? I'm looking to do a SAS w/ a Currie Dana 44, but have questions about steering components. Any suggestions?

is insurance going to cover everything/anything? is "totaled" as far insurance comp concerns?

man that totally sucks. glad everyone is okay.

Well just when i thought i had time to work on my explorer i get sent back out, to kuwait this time and now im stuck here for a long while. I had just gotten my PA body lift 3'' then when UPS is at the door the phone rings and guess what that was my call to leave been here for a month now just waiting on saddams political games to finish so i can go home and finish working on my X anyone care to give me a hand when i get back?

I'd like to help, but that's a long way from Phoenix:(

Good luck on your deployment to Kuwait.

i havent been keeping up with threads too much lately so if this has been covered already please ignore it or redirect me to the right thread (thanks)

a few questions:

- what did choala do witht he lower crossmember that the lower control arms bolt to? is that cut off? if so then is there another piece that he put in to replace it? it seems that there isnt anythign under the motor except for that piece.

- how was the steering adpated? did he reuse the jeep steering parts and replace steering box with bronc/explorer/jeep part?

- did the guy ever get explorer fixed after the wreck?

- were the front springs stock or lift springs? i realize that the springs were mounted over axle for lift but need to know basically how much lift stock springs give....

now before anyone gets all excited... i basicaly have a dana 30 being given to me with springs and everything. i also need to replace wheel bearings, cv axles, upper lower ball joints on my explorer that now has 170k on it. so im looking at al that tiem and $ to replace stock parts or i could spend the tiem and money to set upa straight axle front end. mt thought is that i would run stock rims with 32s or 33s until i could afford to swap in a dana 44 and do all the fun things that ide love to do - 37's, regear yada yada you know the deal.:D

again, apolgies if these have been covered before. anyone have any info for me on this?
