I ordered a set of BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO 31x10.50x15's last week. They were supposed to be here today, but my tire guy said the company he gets the tires from said there is a problem with them and he cannot get them/they will not sell them. I got a full refund and was offered a discount on any other tire I choose, but I really like the BFG name and the tread design looks good. Anybody heard anything about this?

I was also told that the sidewalls on BFG All Terrains are too soft for my heavy Explorer. He said that I might not get more than 25,000 miles on a set. Anybody had these tires longer than that?

(Moderator, if this should have went in the tires and wheels forum, I don't mind you moving it or double posting it there too. I wasn't sure.)

If you really want them, call around and see if you can get them through someone else. I know NTB, Sears, Discount Tires,..etc sells them so keep checking around. If you can't get them through one of those go on-line and get them. The triple sidewalls are, IMO, seem to be very well matched for the Explorer. I have well over 20,000 miles and hardly any wear at all. Sounds like he can't get them or doesn't want to sell them for other reasons. Others here have been a lot more butal on their KO's and they have faired well... Guys..speak up.

What a crock. Your "tire guy" knows less than zero what he is talking about. You need to go find another tire guy.

Ray Lobato got over 70,000 miles out of his pre-ko AT's and I have over 32,000 on my AT ko's and I can't tell that I've even used them. I don't know how much tread I have used but it isn't much. If you've read my previous posts you know how impressed I am with these tires and I think you will find they are universally praised on this board by people who have experience with them and have used them hard. If a triple sidewall LT tire is "too soft" I wonder what he thinks isn't. Does he offer a quadruple-sidewall tire or something?

That's really kind of funny because other "tire guys" have tried to steer people away from LT tires because they supposedly are too tough for Explorers Dead Link Removed Then there's the bit about how they hydroplane, which is also a total lie (they do not hydroplane. At all).

It amazes me all these uninformed rumors spread by "tire guy experts" who haven't any experience with them whatsoever. They are among the best tires ever made and if he cannot get them he is trying to justify a reason to steer you to another brand he can get. These tires are so good they are the only ones specifically protected by BFG forcing their dealers to sell them for retail or risk losing their distribution agreement with BFG. I bet your "tire guy" got caught and can't get them anymore. BTW, did you know that if you get stuck anywhere -- ANYWHERE -- with these tires, BFG will pay the towing fee? Does that sound like a bad tire to you?

I wouldn't do business with someone who doesn't know his own business and/or lies about the products in his industry.

I would have to agree with Gerald. I've have had exactly the ones you want to buy on for over 40K miles now and have not had any problems what so ever. I know BFG is very particular about making sure their tires are sold at the same price by all retailers or that retailer will lose their right to sell them at all. That shop may have got caught selling them under the amount set by BFG and now they can't get them anymore. I would call Discount or NTB and see if they still have them available. Good luck!

Great tires

I guess this tire guy has been working in a donut shop before and thinks, just because both are round and have a hole in the middle, he understands something of tires.

The only problem with the BFG ATs and MTs are sometime delays in delivery, because people like them so much, and that might be the real "problem" this guy has.

I'm on my fourth set of BFGs now, 3 MT and 1 AT pre-ko. (kind of Murphy's law: whenever I change vehicle, the old tire dimension would for sure not fit on the new truck). And for sure it will not be the last one.

Yob,
where did you go? I got my Ko's at Sear's and i highly recommmend them for tire.(but nothing else) They will probably have them in stock, just call up there and see. i hope this hopes. lata

We saw ours in the Sunday paper in the Sears section, right during the middle of the Firestone recall. Went up there and had them installed in about an hour. Salesman did nothing but carry on about how wonderful they were and who all he knew who had them and liked them and he had them and liked them and kept going, and was more than overjoyed to sell them to us.

I also purchased mine at Sears not too long ago. Love'em, and would highly recommend getting them. My buddy just purchased a set the other day for his J**P. Like GJarrett said that is a bunch of CROCK.

GREAT tires

I have 235's AT's on my Explorer, 31's AT's on my bros rice burner{Nissan}, 32's AT's on my rice burner {Samurai}, 235's AT's on my moms Jimmy... and countless numbers on all of my buddys J**ps. As you can see I LOVE BFG, even on my moms new Grand AM. I stick with what works the best. I have ~25,000 on the pre-KO's and im starting to notice some tread wear.
I rate BFG as THE BEST. Even on the trails I'd rather have BFT AT's than most Mudds. On the road... they are AWESOME.
Have a great day, and stick with BFG. Go to another tire guy from now on.

Well the guy wasn't my real tire guy that I usually go to anyways, so I won't be going back to his shop. The only reason I was going to get them from his was because he was only going to charge me $90 a tire. Maybe he got busted for selling them too cheap or something... Oh well, now the next cheapest place is $112 a tire. That's $88 I really could have used on something else!

yop, Where are you ending up gettiing them?

Hey, how about putting some Firestone's on there? But for real tires I got my BFG's at Big O. The guy looked it up in the pricing book and sold them to me for the "legal" minimum. I was impressed with Big O's service and attitude and highly reccommend them.

I don't think we have a Big-O in Va. I don't think i've ever heard of it.

I'll be getting them at Franklin Tire Distributors. That's my REAL tire shop/ alignment shop/ repair shop (for things I don't have the tools for). A guy named Earl owns the place, a guy named Les does the alignments, and a guy named Jarod does the tire mounting/balancing. All 3 are friends of the family so they treat me pretty good.

DARN STUPID TIRE GUY

your tire guy is full of $#!T i used to work at america's tire company (same as discount tire co)and those were a really popular choice among explorer owners. either the 31 or the 30s both were a big hit. they are really excellent tires and the sidewalls theyhave can support a much heavier truck than ours and their sidewalls are also among the toughest in the business

if anything they cant get them and they wont sell them because they are backordered too far because they kick butt. trust me i used to be a tire expert and always taught the new guys..i can still hold my own too

I guess that's what happens when you try to be cheap. I should've known to go ahead and spend a few more bucks and be guaranteed quality, reliable service by my real tire guy.

Well

I bought them at NTB for $88 a tire but when I questioned them about the price they told me that they get them at cost and the other $20 is the labor and profit costs....so they put them "on sale" its a way to get around that retail rule... but they are only allowed to do it 2 times a year....

Im getting mine installed with road hazard protection, tax, and state disposal fee for $500 even...Is that a good price for these? I havent really done much pricing elswhere but the last guy I asked said $560.00

mine were 135 each at Hibdon's tire. they threw in the spare for free due to my existing ATX spare and my dissatisfaction with those crappy duelers.
