Sometimes suddenly my 2001 Ford explorer sport will go out of overdrive while driving and intermittently my overdrive light will blink 6 times, and then keep repeating to blink 6 times until I stop my vehicle and turn off the ignition. Then after restarting vehicle everything is fine again. What is going on. Would someone please comment. Thanks jjobin2:

I am not to sure when it comes to tyranny's. How do I do that? Do you need a special scan tool for this?

You need a code reader capable of reading Transmission DTC codes (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)

"01 Eplorer Sport"

PopRichie77 I scanned for codes, and no codes were found . Today while I was driving in OD it suddenly disengaged and the OD indicator light started to blink endlessly until I stopped and turned off the ignition. Then when I got back in to start my explorer the light was not blinking anymore, and was not on indicating that it was out of OD. What next?

The OD light flashes when the computer sees a trans problem, it also sets a code at that time. When you turn off the key and restart it resets the computer but the stored code is still there.

PopRichie77 I take it you plug your code scanner into the same input has you do when your diagnosing Trouble Codes for the check engine light, or is there a separate connection for the transmission that I am not aware of. If it is the same connection for the check engine light codes, I have done this and there are no codes detected.
I am using a ODB ll actron model# CP9125 Pocket scanner. If there is a separate connection where is it? Thanks

Same connection but just looked up that code reader and it for OBD2 codes only, it can't read Transmission codes or ABS codes.

i also have a problem with mine but trans shifts hard into overdrive and the light wiilnot go out

When the OD light is flashing the computer goes into limp mode, it raises the hydraulic pressure which causes hard shifts, some computers are also programed to reduce engine power when in limp mode. It does this to get you to where repairs can be made.
