Sound deading??

ok, i drove a 94, f-250 yesterday with a 460 in it and i couldent even hear the motor when i put it to the floor..now my 4.0 makes alot more noise when i just barly get on it inside the truck it's pretty loud..what can i do to make it so i can bearly hear the motor??

Why would you ever not want to here the motor?

The answer is get more, bigger mufflers.

i just want it to have it not as loud in the truck....it's not the exhaust that's loud it's the motor itself..could i put like dynomat(sp?) on the fire wall behind the dash to make it not as loud??

well it looks like we are in the same boat,
what i did was take off all of the door panels, and sprayed the h@ll out of both the inside door and inside panel with a cheap tar undercoating then i put polyfill in the space below the open window, i also did this in the cargo area where the jack stand, and on the other side over the wheel wells are. in fact i thought my truck was running better but i just cound not hear the same noise

next was the wind from the sun roof, got a wind deflector !!

now i hear the motor, i bought some more of the under coating, i think the sound is coming from the floor pans b/c the noise is bouncing off the road and the wheel wells.

can not be to bad for $3 or $4

i got time..i wouldent do all up under the dash just as far up as i could go eithout taking the dash apart..and do the front floor board's..and see what that does

I wouldnt recommed doing a half job with dynomat. If you dont properly fill in all the cracks you're left with more noises than you started with.

How could you end up with more noise after installing a sound damper/deadener?

I put sound deadener in a van that I modded. All I can say is WOW what a difference! No need to turn the stereo on high to hear it after. Well, except when a good song comes on!!!

leaving cracks and not properly sealing off the entire area will leave holes for the sound to travel thru which could end up amplifying the sound. Its similar to cupping your hand to your ear

Yes, I notice that. And engines seem to run smoother too. Or is it my imagination? LoL! As long as you don't have bad S P wires.

Okay, I don't about that. I did my doors/walls/cargo floor area with dynamat. I didn't pay much attention to sealing anything - there's a whole lot more than just cracks that I couldn't easily get to, but it's definitely 1000% more quiet inside. I'd say putting something between you and the noise source as a sound barrier is always going to help, even if it's only partial. And sticking all that non-resonant stuff to panels reduces their vibration whether they're completely covered or not.
