sounds from the engine help 4.6L V8

'04 Explorer Eddie Bauer
hi guys, i have a '04 explorer eddie bauer with the 4.6L V8. after starting the engine after it sitting for a little bit, i get a sound from the engine that sounds like a loud fan when i push the gas. after it hits second gear, the sound goes away. what is that sound and what can i do about it. i kinda like the sound, it sounds beefy.lol.

sounds like a loud fan

Well if it sounds like a duck it could be a duck :) it is most likely the fan.
 






Haha I don't think I hit a duck. Lol!! But it's strange I don't know how it sounds like that but it only does it after a while of no start up
 






It's a clutch fan it can spin at a different rpm then the motor. When it warms up the clutch start to engage to match the motor rpm when it cools it "free wheels" more. If you never heard it before and now do it is starting to go.

I do not know if this is your problem but I would start there.
 






Hmm... Even though it's not belt driven? I don't see a clutch anywhere near it
 






Well unless you or someone installed an electric fan it should be belt driven. The clutch is the metal center the plastic blades attach to.
