Does anyone know a good source on the web that explains the '97 Ford Explorer SOHC cam tensioner repair? I'm way beyond the warranty or TSB repair allowance and will need to make the repair myself. Any information would be helpful.

I'm hoping there is a web site w/ photos documenting the repair, parts needed, etc.

Thanks.

Thanks much!!!!! I owe you one.

Thanks for the PDF. I actually did the o-ring replacement last fall when I received an error code on my OBD-II reader indicating a left bank lean condition. However, I did not change out the oil plug or cam tensioiner. I wish I'd known there was a kit to fix the cam tensioner.

Oh well, the second time should be quick...

Robert, just curious; Did you ever replace your stock plastic cam guides? I'm at 115,000 miles and wonder if I should replace the front guides w/ the metal ones.

No, mine are still the factory plastic ones with 104K miles on them. If I ever have a need to tear apart the front of the motor, I'll probably look into changing them out though. They don't make any noise. I wish they would have before I hit 100K miles so that I could feel a little more comfortable about the long term reliability.
