I've got a '91 XLT. It has a bit of trouble running when it's cold...nothing major, just takes a bit longer to turn over when it's cold (about 40* or lower) and it'll sometimes die when shifting from neutral to drive just as I start to accelerate (auto tranny). Sounds like a spark plug issue to me. I just got new plugs/wires today and just need to find some time to install them, but wanted to see if people agree with my diagnostic or have any other suggestions as to what the issue can be. And just to be clear, everything runs great when it's warm outside or when the engine heats up.

Sounds like the IAC to me.

Try cleaning it first.

You could have fouling plugs, and it is a good idea to change them. However I think the IAC or possibly intake manifold gaskets----

^ that's the air control valve, right?

That’s it. Two small bolts one ele. connector and it’s off clean it and check that gasket really good also. There easy to make from gasket material or even a cereal box
