I have taylor spiro-pro plug wires and they are great. Jacobs are also really good. Where did you hear that they melt. I never heard of that. Anyway i highly recommend either of the 2. Hope this helps
i'm lookin to get a lot of performance parts that arent too exspensive, including spark plug wires, i'm just wondering if the split-fire wires are any good.
Well, there are quite a few people that use the Splitfire wires. Consenses is the they are much better than their plugs. Jacobs wires are also very good, and I havent heard anything about them melting. I even used them on my 95. If you had a problem with them melting, you could always use their high temp ceramic booted wires. I am currently using Magnacore 8.8mm wires. Pretty damn expensive. Just hope they will last long enough to get my moneys worth.
Well, theres other opinions but I personally stay far away from splitfires..plugs and wires. Why? They claim a HP increase if you replace your old plugs with them...duh. From other opinions it seems just about any old spark plug with a good design will give you increased HP over old plugs Plus...they sell those things at department stores...
Someone in another post said their Jacobs wires melted due to the header temperatures...
aiight aiight, heh, what type of plugs do you recommend ? i was thinking split fire, but you just changed my mind. I was also thiking about champion platnium's

Well...whats best (this applies to anything) depends on what you want to do..my personal reccomendation would be Nology wires with Silverstone plugs...Xpensive tho. Another thing I just thought of about the Splitfires or any general spark plug is it will have to be replaced at 20-30K instead of 60K like double platinums (Recomended for the Explorer...perhaps due to some plug locations)...
So I would say if you have a Explorer modified enough for high performance and its not too much of a pain for you to change the plugs every 10-20K just get NGK or something good and change em often...if you hate having to change the plugs, find something double platinum (I'd go with motorcraft) and use those so you get good performance but dont have to change em for quite awhile..btw make sure you use anti-seize if theyre gonna be in for 60K...tuff to get out after that kind of time if you dont..
I have no clue about the Bosch but if they seem to work well for others and the price is right try em.
I dunno if I will personally get the Nology wires and all that...i was more asking in general..like Ford motorsport wires, Jacobs...how they have been versus the stock ones.
I got the Bosch 4+ plugs myself and I think they do just fine. I know they helped eliminate some of the shudders my vehicle had after idling all day and then shutting off and starting again. I still have the stock wires though. I will be replacing those here soon though.
Okay, this is off the subject a little but when do you know when to change the wires (not by mileage-I know that). My Exp. has 150k miles and has ford wires. I am not sure if they are origional or not. I would just like to know before I drop $50 for the Splitfires. Thanks.
Well, if they are the originals,it's probabally time to change them! How do the look? Any small cracks in them like when a drive belt starts going bad? Look around the boots to see if they are damaged. How many miles have YOU yourself put on the wires? It's pretty much a judgement call I guess. Chances are if you do replace them you will notice a significant difference!!
Replace em...best thing for any used vehicle is to do a overall tune when you get it unless youre SURE about stuff...spending $200 off the bat for plugs, wires, fluids change, just replacing anything youre unsure of...is better than something happening out on the road or being stuck on a cold snowy night...plus it helps personalize your Explorer, and its always nice to get good stuff you want on there anyway.
anyone tried installing them in a 98 v6 sohc??? take a look under the hood!!! im afraid id lose my hand if i tried, everything is so tight. i cant even see half the plugs!! im taking mine to be installed at my school autoshop for $30, a good price so i dont screw anything up!!
I have a 91 with a 5 speed Bosch Pla4's with Split fire wires instant improvement. That was 15,000 miles ago also put a K&N in at that time getting over 21 mpg. not bad.
