Both thumbs up, LOL.

Got some more work done on the Explorer...

The ENTIRE `97 Body harness is in place...

From the Drivers door, all the way back to the tail lamps, and around to the front passenger side...

That is the 2nd time that I have re-wired the vehicle...

The weather is supposed to be nice, so I think I am going to cut the firewall tomorrow!!

Very nice, how do you like the green rugs? I really liked mine, but the main front section didn't lay as well around the trans tunnel as the 99 rug. I have my original Limited rugs still.

I like the battery mounting, there is plenty of room there. Do you have a rear windshield washer, are you going to install the long washer hose along the right side?

My rear hatch is totally shaved...no rear wiper, so I have no need for the washer bottle...

I SWAPPED THE FIREWALL!!!

EPIC WIN!!

Why do I feel that because the Firewall is finally swapped, the rest will be easier? lol

...SHOULD it be easy? Yes....

...But this is ME we are talking about, and I always have a way of making things harder...

I should be done with the HARD WORK of the swap soon...

It's the troubleshooting that I'm not looking forward to!

I have to weld up the Exhaust tubes that I am re-working. And I have to fix the blend door while the A/C box is sitting on my garage floor...

Ryan

Show me how that's done with the blend door. I bought a spare unit to put in, but I want to make sure it has the proper upgraded blend door.

I plan on doing a write-up on the PROPER way to replace a blend door (i.e. NOT hacking up your box), the way the dealer will do it, if you fork over $600-800 to fix it...

since you've got yours apart maybe you'll know.

Is there eonugh room between the firewall and the dash at the top to cut a hole and mount the new computer horizontally. Like it is in the orgional truck the engine came from?

There us an access panel at the top of the firewall in the engine compartment I keep meaning to remove and look around behind.

Yes. There is plenty of room. I am putting mine there too. I am grafting that part of the `97 into my `92 as well. I was planning on doing that this week.

That access panel only gives you access to the windshield wiper bars...Not much else.

Ryan

Sweet. I very much did not want to cut and solder fity- bajilion wires.

Ask....and ye shall recieve....

That looks BA! Did you use the box from the second gen to hold the pcm or make your own in that hole?

I have a WHOLE `97 in my driveway that is being used as the donor vehicle for this.

I cut the engine side, and the interior side off the `97 and grafted them into the firewall of the `92.

here is what the area looks like with some nuts used as spacers.

hmm...I think a 90 deg boot will still touch the tubes...

How close are you to dropping it in the truck?

Umm...oh yeah....I just picked up a SCT XCalibrator (Xcal1) for $35!!!!

I have the SAME headers, and the SAME Heads. GT-40P heads are NOTORIOUS for this problem. They are the BEST Factory Head that Ford ever put on the 5.0L/5.8L BUT at the cost of a PITA to deal with exhaust issues.

Instead of coming out of the head at an angle that allows the exhaust tubes to angle close to the head, the P heads have the plugs coming out almost perfectly perpendicular to the crank centerline. Which has them crashing into the primaries in most applications.

Matt is attempting to shorter (1/4"?) plugs in combination with a 1/2" spacer. and another gasket.

In my trial fits, the exhaust tube LITERALLY touches the first 2 plugs on the drivers side.

I am going to re-route the tubes so they go straight down, THEN over to the collector.
