Speaker size, front and rear?

On a '98 XLT i think the speakers on both the front and rear doors are 6x8's. Can anyone confirm this for me before I want a purchase of 4 6x8's? Also, would all 6x8's be the best choice?

Or, looking at the pinned topics, it says they are currently 5.5"X7.5". Can this be easily upgraded to 6x8's? Thanks again!

i upgraded mine to sony xplods..and they were a direct replacment..im pretty sure it was 6x8..but not positive.

Sorry, but they are 6 x 8. NOTE: 5 x 7 will also fit but the factiiry speakers are 6 x 8.

I would have to disagree. When I removed the speakers and put in Infinity's the speakers matched exactly. If you put them side by side or measured the cone... the same.... so... I don't know. Maybe my truck is a gimp?

The cones are roughly the same, but if you compare a 6x8 speaker and a 5x7 speaker you'll notice a slight difference in the shape of the frame. For the most part a 6x8 will fit the ford mounting place a bit better, whereas the 5x7 may leave a little gap around the speaker.

At least this is the way it's been In my experience - goin on my 5th door speaker setup.

WOW! Thanks everyone! My current plan is to order from Crutchfield, so if I need any mounting materials it "should" come with it. I didn't have time to make off the door panel to see for myself. I will be sure to report back what I find when I install them. =)
