After I set my speed control, my 1996 4.0 now usually gradually speeds up. It didn't do this until about a month ago, after I hadn't driven it for a week or two. (Good motorcycle weather!) I don't know if that would have anything to do with it or not. Idle is occasionally, but not often, erratic, but has been for the last year or so ever since I bought it.

Any ideas on where to start? Thanks!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the cruise is vacuum controlled although I think I'm wrong. Idle is probably a dirty iac valve. Made mine idle at 1300 rpm. With a rusted muffler it was kinda loud.

I was just reading about the IAC valve, and may try to clean it sometime soon. Maybe a vacuum leak affecting the speed control?

There easy to clean. Remove beauty cover and take, i believe, 2 t15 torx screws out. I cleaned mine with carb cleaner.

If it is vaccum controlled a vac leak could cause weird idle as well as weird cruise.
