the pics of the speed grille looks really bad inthe photos- looks awesome in person- i really like it!!!!

Looks really good Pur Pony. Did you have to trim the grille any to make it fit? Does the speed grille install over the vertical bars of the grille?

Spectre: Thanks but the pics really suck-lol

I DIDNT have to trim anything... and yes it installs right over the vertical bars. I will get some very good pics up tomorrow I hope... if not- then friday. It will look much better in light. I took those at 8pm... was dark so we had to lighten everything in photoshop and make it look like day- lol...

Looks real nice, I love the way speed grilles look. Can't wait to see the better pics.

question

This may seem like a stupid question but here it goes.
I have a 95 EB and I was wondering why you had to switch to the 2001 front end to get the speed grille to fit. I understand that the bumper grille wouldn't work on a 95-96, but isn't the top grille the same from 95-2001? Also, where did you get that grille? It looks really nice.

just wonderin pur pony.. where in ct are u from.. im from litchfield ct.

keysersoze,

the 95-97 limited have a different grille than all other explorers.

KeyserSoze-
like QuadCam said... the 95-98 limiteds have a different grille. But you are right by saying the 95-2001 grilles are the same... except the limiteds... anyways.. i got the whole kit from www.streetscene.com

Pemerling- Im over in the Willimantic/columbia/franklin area but go to school in New Britian at CCSU.

Everyone else- thanks... ill get some better day time pics up soon

night all

From '95-97? the hood latch is in the grille. You would have to convert to a newer hood latch to use the speed grille. '98?-up you reach it under the hood opening when its popped.

blk mk8-
thanks- Nope... shift kits still sitting on my desk.... planning for it to go in this weekend. My dads rolling in from florida tomorrow at 3 so ill have an extra hand to help me out also-

ill let ya know how it works

Pur Pony,
Looks great. How much did everything cost? Also, how do you open the hood? Did the grille come with an extension? Thanks

DJLittleWonder:
The speed grille was kind of expensive but well worth it- i love it. The main grille was 120 i think and the bumper grille was 80...i know- a rip off but just got to have it. As for opening the hood... i stole the hood latch set-up off my dads 98 limited and gave hime mine. That way I can reach under the hood instead of in the grille.

do what i do with my speed grille, take a screwdriver and shove it between the holes, works great!

JAS84, do u really use a screwdriver for going through your speed grille? does it work good?? because my dad refuses to switch latches with me off of his X. If not, pur pony, how did u go about switching the latches? is it a pretty easy swap? thanks

Slick

yup works fine and dandy right now, i plan on switching the latch to a newer one because i dont want to have to worry about not having a screwdriver when my car overheats :-)

Was the grille easy to intstall? what all did u have to do? Sorry for all the ?s but i wanna know what to expect when i get one! thanks again

Hey guys-
the latch switch is not a direct bolt on. I needed to measure my dads 98 and then drill 2 holes into the underside of the hood. I then took a piece of stainless and drilled and tapped two holes. The 98+ hood is re-enforced and treaded to except the latch.
I then slid the piece of treaded stainless into the hood and screwed the latch on.

the speed grille install was easy but did require the removal of the grille to do it right. You have to take the parking lights out and then the grille- not to much of a job.
