Don't know if this is strange or not. My speedometer reads about 5 mph high at 20, 4 mph high at 30, 3 mph high at 40, 2 mph high at 50, 1 mph high at 60 and is finally correct at 70. I've verified this with a handheld field GPS as well as several phone apps. The tires have always been the stock size of 235/75R15.
I bought my Explorer used, and I believe it was in a front-end accident. The only idea I have is maybe the speedo was calibrated for larger tires at some point, however, I can't get the numbers to work when I play with the tire size comparison tool at http://tire-size-conversion.com/tire-size-comparison/.
I searched this and other forums but couldn't find anyone else with this problem. Any ideas?
